hey guys my sisters 2002 passat started shaking then died on her, the epc light, and check engine light came on as well. We took the car to the dealership they said it was the throttle body, also afterwards i found that there was a vacuum hose that was broken. Well they wanted almost a $1000 to replace the throttle body and the hose.. I thought that was ridiculous, so i ordered a brand new throttle body and had it over nighted, i replaced the hose and the throttle body tonight, now the car sounded like it was misfiring blowing out white smoke out of the exhaust, shaking like crazy!!! what the heck is going on, any help would be great...

ya ya i know not a Subaru, but i need help if anybody knows about what i can do... the passat forum isnt sending me the confirmation email, so i cant post a thread on there..

 

One general Mantra i know of is this; White smoke out of the exhaust=burning coolant. It could also be possible you did not plug in a sensor on the tb and it is causing it to run lean and predetonate. Aside from that, no clue, these new-fangled electronic monitoring systems on new cars make my head hurt. Perhaps a ecu reset is in order as well, and of course check for codes.

lol, i guess with these throttle body's, you have to get them aligned. Its called throttle body alignment, you have to get have a vag-com cable or something like that, and program it via using some kind of program, so the new throttle body "learns" the car. Damn this car was a PITA, i hate vw's no offense to anybody that has one, but my sister has had nothing but trouble with this car...
