bought a used vf34 for nothing.
So I was told that my turbo was bad a few weeks ago. I recently bought a used one after spending a couple weeks stressing over whether my turbo is going to blow any second. I went to D to install it this morning and we took off my intercooler and lifted my car and my turbo was perfect. I just needed a new gasket and my intercooler wasn't tight enough. My turbo is in better condition than the one I bought.
I'm really frustrated man. I'm glad I don't have to spend a lot of money but if I had the original mechanic install it I would've thrown away a perfect vf34. It was so easy to check to see if the turbo was good or not that I wonder if they even looked at it originally.

so put up a FS post. Note if the wastegate is cracked.... even if its a hairline crack, how many miles on it, any shaft play at all, overall condition of the turbo. VF turbo's dont last long for sale.

how did your mechanic determine the turbo was bad? leakdown test? hearing sounds? That kind of issue should have a ton of boost leak which can be detected and fixorated.

Most VF turbos I've seen spool up fast and die out up top fast. Don't get a 39 because they're notorious for that little wastegate crack. Anyways glad you didn't have to waste a bunch of money for nothing and I'm sure you can sell any VF turbo with ease on here

For street use running on 91 octane, though, nothing beats a JDM or USDM VF series turbo for a great combo of driveability and broad power.
