If it were not for the evo, the V8 STi would only be in the 270+ HP range. I do like them because it pushes Subaru even further, but as far as looks go, they are in the eye of the beholder and I do not think they look better

Dont down me for hating evos, I just started the thread to get a good conversation going. We learn things that way. I never said I didn't like the evo, I love the evo, I just prefer the wrx. It fits me better

no 1 was really putting u down. you did start a pretty good conversation, but u gotta remember ppl are mostly gonna lean to one side here. but i do like the EVO its just that the STi and all the other subies do it for me better. Subaru gives u more choices, all u have with Mitsubishi is the EVO. They make some good cars but I prefer all wheel Drive better. plus the subie community is far better imo.

ok, time to clear some things up. i have personally driven and researched both an evo and gsx... first of all the engine is not the same, it is very loosely based on old eclipse engine. the turbo is much larger, both housing and turbine. also, as far as comparing their all wheel drive systems, there is no comparision. on the track (i'm not talking drag) the gsx is a turd, it feels heavy and the awd system feels like more of a hindrence in comparision to the evo. honestly a fwd eclipse is more fun on a track then a gsx. the evo's awd system is highly advanced... for example if only one wheel was touching the ground it has the ability to only put power to the one wheel (wow, i guess that would make it one wheel drive, owd!). big thing on a gsx is launching... can you say ouch, yeah it's fast off the line but the trans is a ticking time bomb for drag launches. hope this clears some things up.

Sorry if I offended any SAAB owners on the suby forums (but their designs just seem a bit too old fashioned)

No, GM via Saab is using the GG platform to make a more upscale clone called the 92x. Saab engines are for the most part I4, vs Subaru H4.
Anyways the Evo & GSX are from the same family tree, but the Evo has 'evolved' a great deal since. But by that same rational, why buy a STi or WRX? Just get a 10yr old awd GC & turbo it, right? No, the newer cars are more reliable, safer, etc...

Two letters MR read about it and learn. If you don't think the 4G63 is a good engine I suggest you do a search about 9sec Evos more than a few have graced a drag strip maybe not in America but definately in Japan. Also the HKS Evo just took over the Tsukuba #1 spot for fastest 55 sec flat which I might add is freakin fast. The Evo is a good car and the engine inside it is a strong little beast all in all Suby uped the challenge by dropping the 2.5 in the STi but if the MR makes it to the states it will be 300hp vs 300hp.

Hi to all,
My last car was a 92 GSX eclipse with the standard stuff done to it. 2g exhaust manifold ported and polished 16g and a ton of bushcur stuff. My best 1/4 time was a 13.4 @94.0 Why the low MPH? 0 degree timing advance! My fault, after the dealer installed my timing belt they did not re-advance the timing.
Anyway, now I own a Stg 4 WRX that I think is just awesome. The thing that I did not like about the Mitsubishi that I like about the Subaru is the availablility of factory parts! Not normal ones either, I mean the STI stuff that we all take for granted. For instance I have a SPT (Spec C) susp on my WRX currently, at the time nothing like that was available for my GSX and still is not. We can get so much great Pink or Cherry Blossom stuff for the Subarus that Mitsubishi will never offer for there own cars.
I like factory engineered and tested stuff!! It just fits better and works better! (My Opinion) If I had the money to buy an STI I would do it in a heart beat. Especially since it comes with an awesome 6-speed transmission. The tranny in my GSX was not a pleasure to drive at all. The second gear synshros were known to be a weak link and mitsubishi did nothing about it. I will not even go into the matter of the rear diff leak that reared its head on my car.
I know that the EVO is a great car, but I will never buy another Mitsu due to the lack of factory upgrades available!
Super!

someone correct me please(if i am wrong) for all claritys sake. there is really no sharing involved . i don't think subaru will be using anything of saab's inventory. simply put-saab is using subarus ingenuity(and paying for it too!)
back to the subject at hand- IMOpinion... subarus are better quality. they hold their values so much better. grant it as much as i love the stis power over the evo. the evo feels much better pounding it through a bunch of turns. my dream sti would be 2.5 motor with the carbon fiber wing(EVO) and the sparcos(EVO) and then lastly not least the suspension(EVO) - oh yeah, plus a radio/cd!

I think EVO's are good looking cars, so are the WRX's i think it all just comes down to what you like better, I like subaru better so I would pick the STI instead. I think it deals mostly with loyalty to what one picks. If i'm right, Subaru does have better reliabilty than Mitsubishi, so that's another thing to think about too
