Anyone here know what the short brass colored bracket is for that is bolted off the passengers side of the intercooler above the turbo? I have an 05 WRX (haven't checked on previous years) and this bracket seems to line up with the grated vent through the hood inside the passenger's side of the scoop. Anyone know purpose?

 

02s have it too.... not sure what it's for.

 

I thought it was for a turbo heat shield, if the engine had a larger turbo. I know that a Subaru parts maker SpeedMonkee used to fab a "chimney" heat shield that bolted to that bronze fitting, and ducts turbo heat right out the hood scoop when you are sitting at a stoplight. Hmm... wonder if he's still making those!
