ugly new entry level toyota things...

i saw a toyota Scion, or whatever they're calling those things on my way into work this morning. good lord, it has to be one of the ugliest cars that i've seen in a long, long time. it was the super boxy one, i'm not sure what the actual name of it is, but it looked like a cheap, ghetto version of a Mercedes Geladenwagen. if it was the size of a mini, it might have some 'cute' appeal, but it's the size of a Honda CRV or Toyota RAV4. it's almost as repulsive as some of the new pontiac sport utility things.

the funny thing is that Toyota is trying to appeal to the 25 and under set with these things, but i don't think that anyone under 25 is going to want to be caught dead in one of these. between these things and the new Matrix, Toyota has really dropped the ball. they ought to go back to making AWD celicas and Supras that can hold 800hp.

I would actually have to disagree with you about the Matrix. They are perfect for what they are, which is a multifunctional car on a budget. 4 WD, good fuel economy, good pricing and Toyota reliability. As far as styling that's a personal prefference but I kind of like them.

true, the Matrix is a functional vehicle i'll grant you that. however, i haven't really seen many out on the streets, and so i'm assuming that they're not selling well. i don't know if it's the way that Toyota is marketing it or what it's competing against that accounts for the low numbers of them on the street.

I love that little Box. It's called Scion XB and it is Toyota bB in Japan.
It won't replace my Subaru but I'd buy this one over Civic, Corolla and those other grocery getters.

it is a lot smaller than RAV4,CRV.
it shares chasis and engine with Echo

i swear the photos make the thing look better than it did out on the open road. the one i saw was dark blue without all the of the dressed up bodywork shown in the photos. it looked like a mini that was morbidly obese, but with sharp corners.

I don't know why people would buy a Camry when they can buy a Matrix, those things are nice

I don't like the Scion xB, I think the thing looks rediculous. If it had some other tangible merrit I would look past its uglieness, but I don't see much. Maybe its low sticker and utility, but it not enough. I don't think many young kids would be caught dead in that thing.
that was my thought too. the irony of this is that Toyota is marketing them at 'young kids' many of whom i think won't be caught dead in one. they sorta remind me of the old transformers cartoons, they don't even look real half the time.

I agree that the new scions are thus far pretty ugly. I just read an article with the head of scion north america or whatever they are calling it. Essentially what I got from the article is that the 3rd scion that is due out pretty soon is going to be damn impressive. I think its going to be a sporty car instead of a box on wheels. Maybe they are just trying to build up the 3rd scion by making the first two as ugly as possible.
