Saabaru!!!!! Why?!?!
I just finished watching the GM unveiling online. I've never heard more marketing drivel in my life!
They start with all of the "SAAB history" and "SAAB DNA" BS. The most interesting fact I see is that the engine layout has more in common with the old SAAB 900 than todays common platform/common engine cars.
They talk on and on about why this is a compelling new product, but now they will have to do two things. First, is stop the we only make turbo cars (the base 9-2 is the 2.5 N/A). Second, they will now have to engineer their cars with yet another GM company (hopefully, the bean counters won't be able to reach enough to get to Subarus engineering dept, or we will ba talking about the impreza in 10 years like Oldsmobile is talked about now.)
All of this will work because of one reason, the US market doesn't care. SAAB was great because you had a smaller car swallow luggage and have great aerodynamics due to a hatchback configuration. But they sell more because they have a sedan, just like Audi and BMW.
In my opinion, all marketing crap aside, I like what is being done. Now you can get a higer scale great drivers car. The knock on the WRX is the low-buck interior and econ. car style (other's people words, not mine). Now you get sophisticated styling, factory leather interior, and factory sunroof in a wagon.
I have two major problems with this car as to why I would not buy one. First, call me a purist, but I want a SAAB to have the ignition on the console. That was handed down from SAABs aeronautics industry, and I don't know why it would be that hard to engineer.
the other is the engine choice. We all know the reason the XT motor is not in the WRX....Rally acceptance. It needs a 2.0 to be accepted as a car with rally heritage. The Saab has no such connection, and the 250HP motor would really make it worth the money.
Ok, my rant is done.

The Saab 9-2X's advanced full-time all-wheel-drive and boxer four cylinder engines are firsts in Saab's history.
...
The turbocharged and intercooled two-liter high performance DOHC 9-2X Aero engine produces 227 hp @ 6,000 rpm and 217 lb.-ft. (294 Nm) of torque @ 4,000 rpm. The power plant of the Saab 9-2X 2.5 is naturally aspirated and delivers 165 hp @ 5,600 rpm as well as a maximum torque of 166 lb.-ft. (225Nm) @ 4,000 rpm. Both cars provide a standard 5-speed manual transmission; a 4-speed automatic transmission is available as an option.

Yeah, I understood what you were refering to (and I agree too). I was actually refering to AzN121184's post, not yours. Although, in retrospect, I think I may have read his post wrong.
Unveiling can be seen here. Personally I like it.
