Question oil catch can

Hello everyone.
I have a few questions about an oil catch can..... I have seen them a couple of times, I was wondering is it really worth getting one, how well do they work? or is it a pain in the *** and not worth spending the money..... thanks!

I have an 02 WRX with 50k miles on it, and I drive it pretty cautiously (no track days) but still manage to redline it a few times a week and do WOT highway-entrance-ramp runs. I recently removed my intercooler to install Samco hoses and inside there wasn't the slightest trace of oil. However, others on these forums have described removing their intercooler and having oil run out and puddle on the floor.

Whether you need one or not seems to depend on your driving style and the amount of blow-by produced by your particular piston/cylinder setup. For a very aggressive driver with a poorly broken-in engine, an oil catch can might be a big help, but for an average driver with a tight block they are just overkill.

Note that the proper way to install oil catch cans on our cars (WRX and STI, as well as turbo Forresters) is to have *two* of them. Do a search on this, as the debate on how to plumb your oil catch can is an active (and occasionally nasty) point of argument.
