New Mazdaspeed 6

Wow this car looks pretty impresive. 274hp from a turbo charged 2.3L 4 banger and awd. All for under $30K. Not too fond of the looks though. The front is okay but the rear looks ghey as hell, especially w/ those damn altezza lights. Also, it's shares a lot of parts w/ Ford, which is never a good thing

I like the idea of this car quite a lot, particularly in light of my Subaru's transmission being a bit quirky. I believe I read that the "awd" system was primarily a front driver which could send torque to the rear wheels if it detected slip - probably a haldex type system. I'm a bit skeptical of that system...
In any event, competition in the awd car market segment is a good thing for me as a consumer.

Looks like a wannabe Acura TL. Actually, almost all of Mazda's cars look like some other car already in production...

Yeah, I figure this could force Subaru to give more power to the Legacy GT, which is always a good thing. But then again, Mazda is notorious for quoting incorrect power ratings. Remember the 250 hp RX-8, oh wait that's 238hp, or the 150 hp miata, oh wait it's actually 138hp. Maybe this one will come out at 274hp but really be 250hp.

Do you have a reading comprehension problem? I said almost all.

:-)

But if you press me on it, the Mazda 3 wagon looks a hell of a lot like the Toyota Matrix, which beat it to market by 2 years.

My feelings on the Mazda(except possibly the Rx-8) is that it looks like an older style car somebody went out to pepboys and bought ghey a$$ aftermarket lights for. Bodystyle is very oldschool.

I read your post exactly as you wrote it and I responded with a simple question. What's wrong with that?

Oh yeah, by the way, power is split 100/0 when normal driving and 50/50 if driven aggresively. NOt sure how the car detects that but that's how power is put to the ground.

It seems to me like the Mazdaspeed models are intoduced to regenerate interest in older mazda models, whose sales have been slow. First the protoge, then the miata, now the 6.

I were looking for a sporty midsize sedan, I think I would want one with a V6 instead of a turbo 4 for the increased torque and lower maintenance costs down the road.

So if this pattern continues, in about 2-3 years, Mazda will decide that the 3 needs a little spicing up, and they'll offer the Madzaspeed3 with the 2.3 turbo and AWD...now that will be a fun car!
