Motor Trend Results In EVO is Faster than Sti

So what if they claim it's still faster? It's still a damn fast car. WRX's weren't meant for quarter mile runs even though the general market is madly fascinated with them for that. When you take the US spec STI and US spec EVO, the STI will win all of the time, if both drivers were equally qualified.
Besides, the EVO doesn't even come with an LSD, what fun is buying an overhyped car that does not even include the bare essentials for a badass car?
But I have respect for both cars, I really wanna see them go at it in autocrossing or some rallies this summer.

Motor Trend's Article on the EVO vs. the STI
I read the article and really thought about what I was being told.
A few things I recall about the article were that the EVO had more aggressive gearing then the STI, this could make all the difference in a drag race and would explain the faster time.
They did not mention what kind of revs the motors were pulling at 80MPH, so yeah the evo might be faster from a dead stop (depending on the drivers). I have a funny feeling that the STI would be faster at accelerating when the car is rolling or at a higher speed, and would also tend to max out at a much higher speed (While keeping the motor intact and getting better MPG).
Another thing they mentioned was that the suspension on the EVO was considerably stiffer then the STI. This would explain the better slalom speed and the better braking.
Now that is all fine and dandy.....BUT...think about this: Would you rather swap out your softer STI shocks/springs...in a few hours a very little labor cost....or spend a sh** load hours taking apart your tranny/rear-end and tons of labor cost swapping in some LSD's in the EVO?
My thought on all this is that both cars are proving to be VERY capable. I see both had to make compromises, both have their strengths/weaknesses, and both have a potential spot in our garages =). My Personal opinion is that Subaru gave us a car that will be much easier to hop up even more then they did and a car that unlike all Mitsubishi’s, will not be in the shop once a month.
Thanks Subaru.
BTW. Rim Of the World 2003 – Cold (30-40 degrees), wet , muddy....didn't see a single car run by at the "Spunky" spectator point....cars were 2 hours behind schedule=(.....still had a good time

"rallycar wannabe" rally car wannabe? Dude, EVO's are pretty damn good in rallies. It just takes a good driver. I have respect for the EVO, it can still kick a lot of ***. I'll give you it's ugly though, I can't stand it, it comes with altezza's, that's pathetic.
It's an eclipse engine anyway man, those things can get over 300+ horsepower with about 1500 dollars. Although some parts might be different considering it's an updated version of the engine.
But eh...I really didn't like that post.
I don't like what mitsu. is doing, you just don't get what you should with the money you'll pay for one.

oh and you guys need to stop getting so defensive about your car after something or other CLAIMS that it's not what you thought it to be. just love your car for the car it is and just give other cars the respect they deserver. don't hate cuz it's NOT the STi. dont' get me wrong. i love the sti but i also love the evo8.... and the rx8... and a lot of others. just the way i see it. don't mean to come off as the condescending type, but i guess that's the way it did.

the rx-8 is gona put out 250 horsepower with only a 1.3 liter =) ahhh rotary engines .....cool shi*t. o yea btw.....I was hating on the evo cuz its an imitation piece of junk.....I have all the respect in the world for companies that actualy try to design thier own breed of beast.....not take a bunch of already used parts from different cars. And make a couple new parts modeled after others cars they might wana be like......... & finaly throw them all together and call it a car.

Geez, did any of you even read the rest of this Motor Trend issue?
Other than the EVO's 1/4 mile and 60second times, there was nothing but praise for Subaru's througout the whole issue! There was that article about the Forester (basically saying dont get the Mitsubishi, save up for the Forester, LOL!) and a great article about the PPP WRX, and even that article about the "New Muscle Car Wars". All great stuff, and that whole STI article had nothing but praise as well. They seemed as confused about the track times as we are if you read between the lines.

Motortrend puts mitsu on top again...
Just a quick note, this isn't the first time Motor Trend has put the Evo against Subaru, about a year ago they had the Evolution 7 against a WRX. Obviously the Mitsubishi won because the Evo 7 had more power than our WRX. But just thought that it was a little funny.

Not sure if this is true, but I also heard that the STI has to shift an extra time during the quarter because of the shorter gearing of the six speed.
