Hey guys, this is my first post so first off I would like to say that I hope I can learn as much from you guys and grow to be a part of this culture like you all have become.
I just bought an 02 wrx with 61k on it
It had some mods which included:
- Blitz SUS intake
- Greddy type-s blow off valve
- Sti Carbon fiber style side marker
- Helix Up pipe & Down pipe (catless)
- Greddy evo2 Exhaust system
- TEIN springs
- STI style front strut bar
- aftermarket brake pads
- Blitz boost gauge(black light style)
- Blitz oil/water temp meter
- Blits Dual SBC Spec-S boost controller
- Pivot turbo timer
Now, the exhaust isn't smoggable because of no cats. Since I'll be doing this myself to remove the exhaust (or whatever else needs to be done,) what do you think would be good to do to make it pass smog which will be the least painful for me? Is there any tricks also that might help? I was planning on just putting the OEM stock back on (and yes...the up and down pipes) but how long should it take without a lift?
Thank you for all of your help in advance!
Kevin

put a stock downpipe (and cat-back just to not **** off the tech) and you'll pass the sniffer test. You can get through with the sniffer as long as the tech doesnt do a very good visual test. This is why I say put on the stock cat back because then the tech might not care so much about the visual inspection. I'd also loose the BOV and intake (intake will not pass)

Luckily the guy I bought it from has all of the OEM parts. How hard is putting the pipes back in and how long should I expect to be working on the exhaust/intake/BOV/etc for?

You're right the seller IS supposed to smog the car, however, I made him drop the price of the car in order for me to do the smog. I didn't want to spend the money he was asking and I made him drop a good $500 bucks or so and I'd do the swap. Luckily he has all the OEM items.

My old bugeye passed with catback, catless uppipe and stock dp w/ a Greddy BOV, K&N filter and Samco intake charge pipe. The cat on your uppipe becomes obsolete when your car warms up to it's normal operating temprature. It is only there if you start your car cold and pull it straight into a smog stall. Just drive around for a good 15 miutes and get the car nice nad hot and when you get to the smog station KEEP your car running! It's what I did and I passed!

I do know a guy who lives close who has his own smog shop. Considering he had a SC mustang and I guarantee he didn't have smog legal setup. He might be able to help me out. Thanks for all the quick replies guys!

Alright, I'll just swap the intake, BOV, exhaust and downpipe to make sure it'll get smogged and put em back when it's all done. Probably like a total of a 3hr process to switch right?

Most people will advise you to leave the stock BOV and stock air intake on the car after you pass your smog test.. I agree and if I were you would just sell off the aftermarket BOV and intake. You can search for the thousands of posts about why the wrx does not need an intake or BOV....
