I So Want!

I so wish I could get this.....it would be a great addition to my other subys.
Prices have gone down on these now-a-days. $33K + 1800 for shipping, not bad.

Heres the link:

Does anyone know if we can get a JDM car through customs? Last time I checked DOT was being VERY **** about such imports. I don't care about licensing it.....just owning it (& track days) would be just fine by me.

You sure its legit and not a fraud or replica? 22B's were very limited production and that price seems too good to be true and you know what they say about things that appear to be too good to be true...they usually are. I would be very careful if I were you if you really are going to buy it. Do research and background checks until you know 100 percent that it is legitimately one of the few that were produced by Subaru. I mean any of us would love to have a 22B but you have to be somewhat skeptical with something that rare.

That price is about right, it's not a replica.

Getting it in the states is going to be bad, though. They don't like doing show and display, and bringing it in as a track car is still tough to get through customs - they won't buy that it won't be used on the road.

I love the 22b but IMO if it isn't already in the states it isn't worth it. For the $$ you'd be better off buying an RS and swapping in a newer STI powertrain/drivetrain, doing the bodywork and having a comparable car both in looks and performance. (and you could still get away with driving it on the street).

Is there a way to convert a RHD vehicle to LHD? Isn't that the main importation crutch? I don't know much about DOT importation laws. What exactly is the reason its so hard to import foreign vehicles?

It has nothing to do with it being RHD, it has to do with impact testing (Japan doesn't have the front/rear and side impact requirements we have), lighting, etc. The car in that configuration was never imported here, and CA is more strict than any other state when it comes to titling and registering grey cars - most of the trick Japanese stuff you see in CA is done through hookups and legal gray areas, vin swaps, etc; few of the cars here will hold up to an in-depth inspection.

These cars didn't have 450hp. They were rated at the same "official" 276 as a standard STi and were probably somewhere around 300. The block has more in common with the closed-deck Legacy Turbo 2.2 liter

Yea.....Customs can be a pain....best bet is to tear it down to individual parts and then ship here not as a complete car, but as car parts...then rebuild (restore) it back to its original beauty. If I ever wanted to drive it on the street I would slap the plates off my RS and would be good to go. A regular cop wouldn't know the difference other than the steering wheel being on the right side.

True it's 10 years old, and the new STi's are much more faster and technologically more sophisticated then the 22B, but you can't slam an icon of Subaru's History. For me, I like to collect cars, and the 22B would be great addition to any collection.

I already have a converted RS....had it for over 6 years now.....so having one like it is not a issue. It's owning the original that counts.

Oh well....it just a dream that I understand I probably will never achive...I have so many wants that this is just added to the list.

Cheers All

EddyL.

i *think* it's a matter of bringing the chassis and engine over separately and registering it as a kit car.

You know I said almost the exact same thing to my wife when I told her about the 22B. I guess it's only a big deal to us Subaru "Old-Timers"

By the way.....good to hear from you too. I don't get out much anymore with college and such.

Cheers

Hope you don't have a gun ...

Saw a 22B at SEMA last year. Seems like there weren't too many people crowding around it though, too bad.
