how do I reset ECU? (was: random intake question)

so i a got a k&n air filter today from the dealership. it was one of the guys who works there from his car. anyways he said to do the "baffle delete" and then put in the high flow air filter that he gave me. and then the way i reset everything is to take off the negative battery term. for a few min. then put it back on and start the car and leave it at idle for a few min. then turn on the a/c at idle for a few min. and this apparently is the way to reset the air intake things for subaru. does anyone know if that is true or not?

I think that reseting the computer would be unecessary if you only removed the snorkel and added a K&N air filter, even if your car is turbocharged or not.

it is a good idea to reset the computer when you add any modification that will effect hp. the reason is the computer will learn a certain way of running and if you change it, it will not be as effective. overall a tune is the best thing, but a reset can help a little bit from what I have been told.

Okay, sure a tune is great when it comes to ACTUAL power mods, but he has a 2.5i with a high flow air filter, I don't think it qualifies for anymore attention than just removing the snorkel and dropping in an air filter.

yeah thats where im confused, because he said if there was any change at all in air flow, i had to reset the computer and then he gave me the steps which i listed in the first post. has anyone used that method of reseting the computer?

reseting the computer just helps it learn faster because it resets everything and makes the ECU relearn everything right away (rather than gradually). I dont know whats up with the A/C thing. Search for "Vishnu Reset"

absolutely not! Your car is going to explode within 10 minutes...whether it's running or not!
