Welcome to i-Club. The WRX is your first performance car, isn't it?

Factory engines are tuned for the factory redlines and often have a rev limit built into the ECU. This doesn't mean that the engine cannot be revved beyond that point because it can still be downshifted (unsafely, I might add) to exceed any rev limit. Engine speed higher than the factory 7000 rpm does not improve power on a stock WRX. In fact, if the rev limit were removed and you had the ability to rev higher you would find your car would actually be slower to accelerate to 100 mph because the engine would rev past its torque band and horsepower peak.

The other factor to consider is that factory-tuned engines that see regular duty above 7000 rpm have internal parts that allow them to rev safely at those speeds. I'm talking about higher tension valve springs, lighter weight intake and exhaust valves, possibly forged connecting rods, etc.

Revving a stock WRX 2.0 liter engine to 10 grand is a sure way to find yourself walking home with a box full of your engine parts that fell out when a connecting rod and piston exited through a hole in your oil pan.

Factory rev limits can be changed with aftermarket ECU reflashes or standalone engine management. This is sometimes necessary when the engine has been modded more than the typical mild turbo upgrade and injector package. Those running ported cylinder heads and much larger turbos will probably find extra power with aftermarket cams and valvetrain and the ability to run the engine higher. Be prepared to do some bottom end work to keep it all together, though.

Yea its my 1st car actually lol. i always wanted a subaru,i was going to get a STI but there wasnt any on the lot so i settled with a wrx impreza plus i was new to the hole manual thing. Well the taking off part but after that i was just fine plus the stiff clutch and touchy gas peddle didnt help really either but i learned fast and started sumwhat racing it messing around with freinds. But now i know tons more about the car and other things, and i want to make it into a faster car mainly. Cause i dont really know much about engine mods and stuff like that.

thanks for the info

Simple bolt on's like up pipe/down pipe, cat-back exhaust and a good tune job will give you good numbers.

Well, remember not to try and push your car too hard if it hasn't hit the 1000 miles mark yet. After that, you can toy with it. =)

what youll want to do is alot of reserch before you do anything. find out what you want to do, your $ factor, and how soon you want it done. there are alot of tuners out there, so you want to find a good one thats been doing suby's for some time now. i know what its like to get a new wrx and want to tune it to a monster right away, but take your time and do it right. everyone here on i-club seems to be very helpful, they can stear you in the right direction. have fun and happy motoring!!

you should have done a lot more research about cars in general instead of just going "I want a subaru!!" are you serious that you wanted an STi as your first car? kinda shocking. well its not shocking that you wanted it. but it is shocking that you would have gotten it. Its waaaaaay too much car for a first time driver. the sales people at the dealership here wont even sell STi's to kids...and for good reason. Ok, I'm dont with my rant, but please, read more about what you can do with cars in general, why they are made the way they are, and what they can safely handle, before you ask how to do specific things. You'll find that your WRX is going to last a looooot longer. Also, I hope you wait until after the break in period is up to go all out with that car...and keep it stock for a while until you get familiar with it. and welcome to the suby family

Seriously, before putting any money into the engie, get rid of the stock tires!!! and reasearch as much as possible. the wrx is a fast car and awd doesnt help you from crashing into a pole 95 mph. congrats on the purchase and def keep the racing at the track.
