Honda s2000?
I am a responsible 19 year old who is getting rid of his Explorer for either an SRT-4, WRX or s2000. The WRX sad to say is at the bottom of my list simply because I either want a cruiser car or something I can mod and make nice numbers with less money, hence the SRT-4. I am pretty sure it will be the SRT in my driveway however the thought of a nice Honda s2000 is catching my eye. I drive alot of open winding roads and with warm weather and all I am starting to get hit with the roadster bug. The SRT makes nice HP and 1/4 mi numbers and I really like the car however the eye appeal is very more distinct with an s2000, it handles amazing and the fit and finish is second to none, very solid and it looks sweet. The s2000 is something I would be content with minor mods even though it won't touch and SRT and it's a down right ****ty drag car but I just like some spirited driving and having fun, I am young now and I want to live my life. I can indeed afford it, I would go for a 2000 with 40-50k for about $19,000 or so... I don't need to worry about the reliability of the car unlike a domestic. I think the s2000 would allow me to put less into the car for mods and more into taking it all in, either car is going to suck in the winter, I plan on making about 300whp as a goal if I got the SRT however though FWD I doubt it will be better in the winter, I could pick up a $1000 junker and drive the 2000 in 3 seasons minus snow conditions, I live in Maine. I am just looking for a happy medium here, the s2000 is one of the best cars Honda/Acura ever made, the name is well known and the car stands out. Thought not lightning fast and the fact I have never driven one I hear it's really nice. I would put a catback, intake, and some other simplistic mods to it, the car itself would'nt suck as much money as an SRT, I would def get bit by the mod bug with that car. I wanted some input on this car and the thoughts of my situation, as stated before I can afford it, I have looked into the WRX thoroughly and though I really like it, it's just not on my list anymore. Thanks for the input, no bashing please.

i would get the s2k over the neon any day. it may not be alot faster than the neon in straight line performance but it should eat up the neon on the roads. you will love tossing the s2k around. very nimble car. very comparable to the rx7 handling wise. also consider pimp status. it appeals to the ladies more.
Stick w/ a neon. You're 19. Most likely, you'll end up wrecking a rwd car and since it costs a lot more, you have other expenses like insurance. Young girls know $hit about cars anyways. The S2000 is very difficult to turn into a 300hp car because of the design of the car. It's main emphasis is taking corners not going flat out on a straight piece of road. Only problem w/ putting a lot of HP on a SRT-4 is it's FWD, which means you'll have wheel hop and torque steer, which isn't a problem if you're going in a straight line.

S2000 is a nice car and I've admired its clean lines whenever I see one. If you don't mind its limited practical usefulness for longer trips (luggage and passengers) and its rear-wheel drive limitations during your northeast winters, it should be a fun car to own.
For mods, I would look at the offerings by Comptech Motorsports, which specializes in Honda and Acura performance. They are based in El Dorado Hills CA.
Many years ago when the shop was located in Rancho Cordova CA, I met then head honcho Doug Peterson when he headed up Comptech's mighty IMSA sedan entry with future ChampCar driver Parker Johnstone. Back then, they catered mostly to those that needed race car fabrication and engineering but they've since gone on to more visible (high buck) forms of road racing and also offer a great deal of street performance mods.

Well they way I see it is I have a lot of friends with SRT's and the peer pressure is there for sure, I know for a fact that an SRT-4 will tool on an S2k in a straight line for sure. I like the WRX alot and it is a choice but bang for the buck the SRT is there, it may not have the build quality and it may depreciate however there is definately ability to run high 12's with a couple thousand dollars in an SRT. I see the S2k as a car that will get a huge amount of looks and though it may not have drag car ability that really gets old, I find the S2k appealing because of the build quality, it is an N/A car that makes 240hp out of 2.0 liters wich is cool and I like a revvy race car like, it feels solid, simple and clean cut. This is a car that will still sell for $12-13,000 with 100k on it... it holds it's value for sure... who is going to turn down Hondas reliability even with 100k, a sweet looking roadster 6 speed that makes 240hp. I know guys who get $8500 for 1998 Accords with 90-100k on them. I like the car and could sacrifice plenty to have it, you only live once. A car that won't suck my money from mods because I can keep it basic and it still gets looks, lasts, has respect of many regardless of being slower than some and there not a dime a dozen, plus hot days a drop top is nice... long flat windy roads.

S2K for sure over the srt4. theres something about roadsters that make them INCREDIBLY fun to drive. even if they are lower on hp. my friends Miata is just plain fun. in the end, thats all that really matters.
The S2K is a great car. I really like it.
I don't know how practical either a SRT-4 or S2K would be in the harsh winters, but if thats something you aren't worried about, I'd go for the S2K. The SRT-4 may be fast in a straight line, but the FWD still bothers me. The S2K will be tail happy, but it will be a much better handling car then the SRT-4.
Plus, don't discount the awesomeness of having a convertable roadster. I certainly feel the draw of the roadster when the weather permits it.

i've sold subies, and now i sell hondas. the S2K is a great car- like wingless said- if you you can get over the fact that its not very parctical in terms of luggage, friends etc.. then its fine. i won't attack the age issue. as i have seen some pretty idiotic older drivers as well.
keep in mind that the S2K is about 13,000 dollars more than a SRT-4.
bottom line, i believe the S2K is a hands down winner in all around driving (since the WRX isn't on that list anymore). too bad the wrx is not on the list, cuz i would recommend a WRX w/premium package. and if the rumors are true.. then you will be treated an all season performer w/240 hp(?).
if price is no real issue i recommend the s2k as long as you really don't need cargo/passenger space.

Personally, I just don't like SRT's. Beyond the fact that it's a domestic, all it has going for it is stragihtline. I'm not a fan of going fast in a straight line, unless of course theres a curve at the end of the straightline.

stock for stock with a good driver both cars should pull off a low 14 with the exception of the neon getting into the high 13's every now and then. mod for mod the neon is the better bang for the buck but in the the end you are still driving a neon. dont get me wrong its a great platform but you cant beat quality with a neon.
