Exclamation Having trouble hooking up. Any Suggestions?

I have a 06 sti that is putting down 350whp and 304torque. I have the tein springs and still riding on the factory tires. My problem is that my car wont hook up at all from a stop now. My buddys stock 06sti gets me everytime from the take off. Any suggestions with what kind of tires i need to go too or any other suggestions on how to hook up better. I usually dump my car at about 4 grand. Any less and it boggs. thanks

Moved from EJ25 Turbo engine forum.

Launch by slipping the clutch and modulating the throttle. That will keep your engine rpm in the area of the torque curve while keeping wheelspin to a minimum. Go to the local drag strip to practice. Once you get good at it, you won't cause much extra wear on your clutch disc, either.

For tires, the factory STi tires are pretty good but there are stickier R-compound tires that will provide even better traction once warm (but not burnout hot!). None of the following tires perform well in normal street driving but are excellent on the road course after some heat builds into them. At the drags, some dry launches before staging (without a smoky burnout) will put some heat into the tires without exceeding their optimum temperature range.

Nitto NT01.

Toyo Proxes RA-1.

Falken Azenis RT-615.

For all of the above, you'll have to check for availability of your OEM tire size. There are also D.O.T. legal drag radials but I wouldn't use these for a daily driver.

Also consider getting wider wheels than the OEM width to get more tire under the car.

For future posts, you can omit descriptions like "My buddys stock 06sti gets me everytime from the take off." They don't add any additional information about your topic and anything that even reads like a street racing post are moved to i-Club's Dumpster forum and thread is closed. Thanks for your consideration.

bounce between 5k and 5.5k, on one of the times you rev, let the clutch out to the engage point and floor the gas, once the car gets going, let the clutch out all the way. Should get you a 1.7 60 like nuthin...
