Like I said, if you want a watered-down 2.0, that's your prerogative. I wish I could have a USDM 2.0L that performs like the JDM version. But here in America, with American emissions control standards, you can't get there from here. So Subaru decided to take a different route. Personally, I'm with them.

and how do you think they watered it down......probably with a low flow cat and a low flow resonator.....they kept the same cams and the same exhaust manifold along with the same motor and same twin scroll titanium turbo........it would be almost too easy to get the lost hp back with minor mods.....and i know the JDM EVO is great, I test drove one at evolution imports in santa ana...i think the EVO VII and EVO VIII are neary identical.....maybe the placement of the radiator and intercooler farther back had something to do with the 5 hp decrease.
Europe does not have laws on hp like japan does.....and their evo is 276hp also! but i think again the JDM evo does have more than advertised.....but not much more...maybe 5, 10 hp tops. 12.8 quarter is a professional driver on its best drive..... a normal driver like you and me would be 13.2 tops! plus the fact that they probably siphoned the tank to a quarter tank for weight and other things we dont know about.
im done rambling....send me a PM if you want to discuss this, i have done "extensive research" on EVO's 3-7 and im still learning about the VIII. but i will be glad to discuss this with anyone....but calmly and intelligently only.

Arent you concerned about the weight? Thats my #1 reason for not liking the newest EVO's.
Oh, and the STI's transmition alone makes up for the price difference in the EVO and STI, not to mention the 25 more hp and .5 more litres with an very impressive new Engine design that may be able to push 600hp without internal modifications.
The even more amazing thing about the STI is how SOA has gone to great lengths to reduce weight as well as throw in JDM Spec-C suspension components... The combination of all these features is what easly seperates the USDM STI from the USDM EVO.

yes, i think the STI is great also, but the reason why i defend the EVO is because of the way it makes so much power with so little.....I mean hollow cams and thinner exhaust manifold is brilliant along with the twin scroll turbo.....the 4G63 is an amazing motor and you can honestly not know anything about motors and still be able to tune it because it is such a simple setup....the boxer on the other hand is complicated and the engine bay is hard to work in...... obviously mitsubishi came out with the idea of the US EVO before subaru came out with theirs and so subaru was able to counter the EVO with .5 liters more.......but i do think that mitsu will do what they did with the new lancer, they will come out with a ralliart extreme EVO VIII which will be a doozy....no S202 or 22B is powerful enough to take on an extreme ralliart EVO and i only know of one place that sells Extreme EVOs....too bad its in the UK.
