Did you know...

This is a thread for posting interesting and unusual tid-bits about Sti and Subaru that many people may not know.
1. Did you know that General Motors owns 20% of Fuji Heavy Industries (who owns subaru automobile line) And that they will be producing a joint venture car @ 2005 between SAAB (GM) and Subaru. That was a little disconcerting news for me.

GM getting in bed with FHI to build a SAAB. It may sound a little odd. I don't know that I would categorize it as disconcerting. Why would it be any different than any of the big conglomerate that is being formed throughout the world today. Look at the list. Daimler-Chrysler, VW/Audi/Lamborghini, BMW/Mini/Roll Royce(not sure may be Bentley) ... Beyond the car world the list just goes on and on.

Yes, GM has owned 20% of FHI for a while. The talk of basing a car off the WRX has been floating around for a while as well. The Saab version will be based off the wagon and also offered in FWD configuration (as it is also in Japan). This info is in current MotorTrend.
You will not see a Chevrolet Cavalier WRX. Infact, there is a new Cavalier already in the works based off their delta platform and due to arrive in a year or so. Besides, the Subaru boxer-engine would not appear in a Chevrolet. However, I would not be surprised to see the offering of a supercharged variant of the Cavalier in its next style, just as the Saturn Ion Redline is being offered.
Also in the FYI department: The Pontiac Solstice concept that appeared at last year's NAIAS had Subaru suspension components. This car has been approved for production and will share its platform with the Saturn Sky, Buick Bengal, and likely a Chevy variant. Don't know that a production version will incorporate Subaru parts.
