Cheating
Ok this is somewhat related to the topic i cant believe i hit that. Well i was driving home a week ago when i looked up for a sec to see if i was taking the right exit to get somewhere i had never been and when i loook back down onto the road i see the car infront of me jump onto the shoulder and by this time im in shock and half blinded by the sun i feel a BIG BAM! SO i ended up hittin something metal and it was pretty big and i cracked my front lip and got some pretty nice "cuts" in the bumper. SO after hearing all that what can i do to cheat the insurance company into buying me aftermarket stuff, becaause im gonna need a new bumper and side skirts because they got ****ed up too. Thanks
no need to cheat dude...
just call the "comptroller" for the State that you were in, such as NJ (or even the town). Tell them that as a result of "road/highway debris" your car was injured...since the person in front of you moved out of it's way in time, but of course, u not being able to see it in time, due to the blinding sun, ran over it.
Don't cheat isurance companies...otherwise, EVERYONE else gets affected!
Later,
i.

Insurance companies WILL cover aftermarket parts IF you let them know you have them prior to the accident. Otherwise, they'll just pay for stock replacements. I had my OZ wheels/Azenis tires added to my policy in case someone steals them. It added a few dollars. To CHEAT the insurance company would be illegal and wrong. However, if I really wanted to do it, I would probably have the aftermarket parts added to my policy and make the claim about a week or two later. You're probably better off just accepting the loss and staying legal.

all you have to do is let your insurance know that you are going to fix your car later but you would like to money asap. they will send you a check for the amount of the damages and with that money you can get whatever you want.
its not cheating unless you made the damages yourself.

a couple weeks ago the same sort of thing happened to me, only i hit a dead possum the size of dog. it had been killed prior to my hitting it soon enough that it was stiff as hell. it felt like i hit a boulder. luckily there was no damage though.

If you didn't bother adding your aftermarket parts to your policy, it is your own fault. Besides, as Silver Mojo said, you can get a check to fix it yourself, and you probably won't be out much money if any! Get a several estimates from shops that your insurance company "blesses", but don't tell the shops that you are not going to have them do the work. Most likely several of them will give high estimates, trying to milk the insurance companies. They have done the cheating for you, you get a check and go to a body shop that will deal fairly with you on the aftermarket parts.
BTW, that sucks you got your car screwed up by trash on the road!
you should be able to get the money for the bumper and not fix it. I did it once. But my situation was that I didn't want to fix/replace the wheel (it was scratched). And the insurance company just gave me the money for the wheel (which should have been replaced). It's perfectly legal.
but which also means, if you get an expensive aftermarket bumper, you won't have enough to cover it. Good luck!
