'03 WRX vs 2005 Vette with Z51 suspen
hey all,
I'm considering getting a second car - a 2005 Vette.
I got a chance to drive one for a while, sales manager let me take it home. He really wants me to buy it.
Just thought I'd give you my impressions and if anyone already owns one or has driven it what do they think?
The 2005 is faster than the 2004, the interior is also much nicer and I like the body style more too. The car is very stable but the suspension isn't as stiff as the 2004 Z06.
Pros: Faster than my WRX, faster than the 2004 Vette, but has some traction problems if you launch it. Quiet with a really soft clutch. Very smooth 6 speed, and the car is powerful and fast over 100. Love the feel of cornering hard with the 50/50 weight ratio - really feels like a sports car. I really like the seats and the interior, I know the seats don't "hug" that well, but honestly they are really comfortable and much better overall than my WRX. Really like the way the top snaps into the rear to get it out of the way. There is a CA smog legal supercharger for it! Keyless entry and starter button - just cool
Cons: I don't think the stock rubber holds quite as well as my S0-3's though I never spun out or lost control, tires were squeeling on corners and my S0-3's really don't. Traction from a launch. Car sits very low, I scrape on rough roads and speed bumps - a lot. Steering feel is a little soft, it's not that it doesn't corner, but it isn't crisp, neither is my WRX though. Not much storage space, but you don't buy this car for it's storage space. Radio is really weird, have trouble adjusting it. $810/month for 60 months with $20K down, $55K with Z51 suspension, T-top, navigation system and chrome wheels....that just hurts thinking about an $810 payment month after month.
Anyone else?

Even though it is more expensive, I would wait and buy the 05' ZO6 instead. 7 liter 500hp/500trq viper killer that can hang with the Italian supercars. But all C6's are beautiful.
Just buy it!!!!!!

Yegods! $810 a month!? I'm almost afraid to ask about insuring the car unless you get a substantial break for insuring multiple vehicles. For sports cars and other performance cars, insurance has to be considered as part of the price of owning a vehicle. As long as you own your rex a vette is okay as a second car. It's never been a practical car since its uses are somewhat limited to being a daily commuter or weekend track car. Longer trips without luggage and more than one passenger are out of the question. So is winter driving compared with a subie.
If I had the money for a vette, I'd really only consider the upcoming Z06. Realistically, I'd get an STi first because it's a much more practical car while still being fun to drive.
Good luck. If you get the vette, bring it to a track day (road course) so we can see what it'll do.

Dude I totally wanted the 2006 - Z06 - it started with a base price of $56K but now has a base price of $66K base and dealer markups will be in the $10K range...just too rich for my blood and we haven't even added options yet!

Wow. Someday I hope to be in a position to have to face this kind of decision. Go for the Vette if you can stomach the payments!

I'm not getting the Vette...I like it but the cost just seems excessive.
