BTW...Government mpg ratings are misrepresented for ALL cars, not just hybrids. Hybrids just get bashed on a lot more for some reason...but people don't seem to care that the Tahoe averages 12mpg instead of the 16/20 that is listed. That's the same kind of percentage drop you see in the Prius, but not many people ***** about it.

Motorcycles are sweet, but I wouldn't commute on one. Way too many people tailgate motorcyclists in the carpool lane, and I feel really bad for them. It's just scary to think a 4,000 lb. block of steel could ram me in the back on my way to work... not my cup of tea. Rather just drive my Prius.

The time saved in the morning is really worth it. As for the special fastrack transponder, yeah, you have to get fasttrack to order the stickers, but you are entitled to use the commuter lane on the bridges during commute hours.

Its only cost effective if its your ONLY car

However for your case, I dont think cost is such an issue.
Its cost effective if your time is worth more than the depreciation/increased repair costs/etc. of driving a hybrid. The time savings really makes sense to us. My dad has to make it across the San Mateo for meetings sometimes, and the drive is cut in half when he takes the Prius. My mom goes into the city often, and the bridge toll and skipping the buildup at the bridge is invaluable (often 30-45 minutes).

So, It either makes sense to you or it doesnt. I enjoy driving my STi when the roads are open and there isnt massive traffic to deal with, but there is really no reason not to have a ticket into the carpool lane if youre driving the roads I drive. The longer the commute (and the more effective the carpool lanes), the more it makes sense. Thats why toyota is selling so d*mn many of them in the bay area...

Oh yeah, and I've fit EIGHT Toyo RA-1's with room to spare in the Prius... tons of storage space. Heheh...

I really would buy one to avail of the cool perks the State gives, but can you please make it look normal and a tad more speed will not hurt the MPG.

Average 0 to 60 ?

Passing speed at 60 to ?

I know they are at least 15 seconds to 60.

the article states a 0-60 in 10 secs. I test drove one and they seem pretty fast.
