Is it worth it? Money is semi-tight but I do need an editing program. I've always looked at photoshop elements but recently I've had people recommend light room a lot... So, is it worth tightening the budget for a week or so in order to get this?

light room is great for quick adjustments and an all around good program. You can do more in photoshop, but you gotta know how to use it. I highly recommend light room for a cheaper faster alternative of photoshop

It's quite good. Does image management too which Photoshop doesn't.

all depends. Have you tried GIMP?
GIMP - The GNU Image Manipulation Program

Maybe thats enough for you and it's freeeeee
Or aperture for the mac. Only 99 bucks though the app store.
lightroom is cool and i love it. Worth the money.

You're telling me! I'm trying to find a nice used D700 right now. I found a couple with low shutter actuations for only $1600. Not bad for full frame coverage.

Also the new D800 is cumming!

The name will be Nikon D800, the sensor will be 36MP (99% probability) | Nikon Rumors

Yeah that guy is crazy. Maybe 400-500 on top would be a fair trade but not 1k. I really want to go full frame for the amazing viewfinder.

But with the new D800, it's slower and possibly worse low light performance due to the 36MP while costing $4000. Yeah I'm gonna stick with the D700
