I pulled into the In N Out in Daly City on friday to discover three cop cars in the parking lot. One cop was talking to a kid, another was hovering in a corner, the last one was slowly driving and stopping through the lot. I had seen a yellow WRX sedan driving through the drivein line, and when he drove out the cop immediately pulled up behind him and put the lights on. The cop pulled the WRX into the RC shop parking lot across the street. From what I could tell, no laws were broken, the car was stock with no muffler that I could see or hear, and the cop seemed to just target a yellow car that came out of nowhere.
If this was you that got pulled over, WTF was the cop doing? I was in the car following the cop car...I know the cops were watching out for "illegal street racing activities" and "gang activities" that night but this is ridiculous if you didn't do anything wrong. Let me know if you need a witness for a court case and tell us what happened.

That wasn't me, but that area is notorious for that type po-po activity. That is the only are in the bay the I have been pulled over twice for looking like I have a modified "illegal" exhaust and nothing else. Unfortunate for me, I had a short ram in my car when they made me open the hood and that was also automatic for them to give me a ticket. The short ram had a CARB sticker, but they did not even care. Also, my exhaust was modified and it was a Greddy that is street legal. No amount of paperwork worked to satisfy them. So state ref smog, court and a day off was the cost for me. The judge threw it out with a $10 admin fee.
was it a bike cop? that guy has been doing this **** for the past couple weeks. he just sits in the parking lot and pulls over almost anyone that leaves the parking lot...and even peopel coming in...its the most ridiculous **** i have ever seen.

It was a black and white cop car. They believe In N Out in DC is now a staging area for street racing in the area so apparently they're just pulling over anyone.
On the bright side, I got to BS with a couple dudes in a 240SX that apparently had the rear brake caliper "fall off." I have no idea how that happened but it was fun to watch them bleed the brake fluid onto the parking lot tarmac
Hope they got home ok.

Hey, just happened to come across this thread. It was me that got pulled over! LOL.
Yeah, I noticed the black n white as soon as I got out of the drive-thru line, and I sure was surprised once I saw him light me up. I *knew* I did not break any [edit: moving violation] laws. You're right, my car is pretty much stock engine-wise (just have a Prodive catback, which is usually quiet enough that it can definitely pass for stock, and besides, there's nothing illegal it). So I immediately pulled into the first parking lot I saw to get ready for the usual drill....lowered my window, turned off the engine, kept my hands visible on the steering wheel. When asked for my ID, I told him I had to get it from the wallet in my back pocket (cops don't like you reaching for anywhere they can't see). He took a look, and didn't even bother gonig back to his car to run my license on the computer. Just told me that it was illegal to have my front windows tinted (they're 35%, rears are 20%) and my front license plate removed. Told me to get these things fixed, and he wouldn't bother writing up a fix-it ticket.
Overall he was cool about the whole thing. As much as I hate to admit it, I think it was because my "profile" didn't really match that of the people they're normally trying to pull over. He could tell by my license that I'm 34, and the presence of my kid's baby seat in the back probably helped too.
Am I going to remove the front tint and replace the front plate? Well, the car is being sold this week (just bought a new Forester XT today!), so really, it's not really a problem I need to worry about any more!
(But if I was keeping it, I probably would have just continued taking my chances...)

So technically he noticed something about you. Tinted windows and no front license plate. I got a ticket for front tinted windows and the guys gave me hard time even though I had my wife and my daughter in my car. It must have been me though that I kept asking him why is it ilegal to have front tinted windows and he kept telling me about whether I need them for my vision or not...
oh well. With the Forester you will be as stealth as they come.
Maybe I should have gone for one as well. (or a Legacy GT).
Anyone wants to buy my 05 STi?
Cheers
