The motor is actually closer in spec to the MDX than the odyssey. Plus it sounds more prestigious.
Honda J35/L66 ftw! Also, depending on how many miles are on the car, you may want to look into changing out some of the auto trans fluid. Not that they are specifically unreliable, but the honda 5-speed is the weakest point in the drive-train chain. Frequent fluid changes (25k-50k miles depending on how hard it is/was driven) should alleviate any problems. There is no filter, and you don't even have to flush it all out, just drain, plug, and refill. It takes about 5qts. There are 12qts total in the system, so just do 5qts every 25k-30k miles and you're still ahead of the owner's manual recommended 100k mile interval.

And only use the approved ATF-Z1 fluid; anything else will cook your trans.
I'm sure the more frequent the change, the better, but keep in mind that the Vue is MUCH lighter than the MDX and Odyssey (roughly 1,000lbs), and therefore seems to have a lower failure rate. The general consensus is that the 5qts every 25k miles is enough with the Vues. Why the hell does honda/acura/saturn insist only only showing 100k miles as the service interval.
Luckily our Vues do come equiped with trans coolers. On a side not, Snot Rod, I need to get some acura parts to make a custom engine covor for the Vue (I'm going to be using the covor off of the 3.0l tl), any chance I can run some part #'s by you in a PM and see if all the parts I think I need are included with that part number? What dealer do you work at? Maybe I can swing by and buy them from your dealer to make sure I'm getting the right part, rather than ordering it over the internet which is what I was planning on doing.

Thankfully they've done several reliability modifications to the 5-speed since the '01 model year but stories like that make me nervious.
