WRX steadily declining in popularity -- Google Trends

My brother showed me this new google feature which I hadn't yet seen. Perhaps it's new to a few of you. It only has data-points back to 04, but it's kinda cool and links to major news stories related to spikes.
Here's one for the epic beard man:

This does not surprise me. There is much more competition and Subaru is drifting away from that racing/rally fun that the wrx opened up in america.
Not to mention the steady decline in the aggressive look and the lack of improvement in the power plant. The WRX and STI haven't done anything since the 2.5 upgrade in the wrx and the 5hp bump in the STI an it's not going to cut it. Not when the competition is making the moves they're making and american auto makers are releasing 400-500hp beasts for not a whole lot more than the STi.
I mean seriously

The STI could definately use a bump, so I agree there.

keep in mind the only data you can get from Google trends is how much people are looking up something on google, not necessarily how popular it is or isnt. It really cant be used as some sort of gauge of how popular or successful the WRX is, it just means people were looking up more about WRXs when they were newer than they are now, which is pretty logical. Obviously more people are familiar with the WRX now and arent looking them up as much (how many people do you know that dont what a WRX is in 2010 compared to 5-6 years ago?)
