just picked up a new hobby today... got myself a blade cp+ 15min in... i crashed... no idea how really.... it wasn't even off the ground yet and i had the training gears on
unbent the spindel and slapped on the other set of roters and i'm "flying" again.
anyone else on here play with rc helicopters?

Air Hogs Havoc Heli FTW
Even my kids can fly them
But yeah, real RC helis are crazy. Mind bending tricks by experts and not even easy to just do the basics.
I thought about getting one once. Was told to make sure you keep spare parts on hand

haha, helicopters are hard to get the hang of, but once you get used to them they're pretty fun. i used to play with RC planes alot, started out on a glider and im glad i did, dunno how many times i made it drop out of the sky but when i got the hang of it i was ok, hahah. ive been eyeballing the Ranger and venom RTF helo . . . but having a suby doesnt really give me the chance to waste my money on anything else . . . yet
i used to joke. learning how to drive a manual transmission car is like learning how to hover a rotary wing aircraft... lol...
balance the collective with the engine speed and you are good to go.
lesson #2: the cyclic.

collective control the tilt of the individual rotor blades. the more tilt, the more lift.
cyclic controls, if you can imagine if the blades were a solid disk, the pitch and/or yaw. this controls which direction the helo goes in.
the throttle controls power.
finally, if you remember newton's 2nd law, for every action, there is a equal and opposing action. so if there is no tail rotor, the body of the helo will spin in the opposing direction of the rotor blades.
also, the rotor blades have their own collective control, the that rudder pedals controls.
so basic helo flying goes like this:
right hand is on like a stick control. this is the cyclic.
left hand is on the collective. sometimes, this looks like e-brake handle. as you pull up, the collective goes up.
also, on the collective control is the throttle. sometimes you twist the end to give more or less power.
then your standard rudder pedals by your feet.
like i said... just like driving a manual tranny car... lol...

I flew a fixed pitch micro heli a few years back and had fun with it until I finally crashed it beyond repair. Just picked up a Blade 400 a few months back and getting back into it. It's so much more stable it's ridiculous. Definitely a fun hobby with a steep learning curve. Have fun
