Car Info: nonplussed
So 4:30am I get up on Mondays to drive my azz back down to the Bay Area. I pull out of my driveway into a completely flooded street. It is raining harder than I can remember it ever raining. I am scared that the rain is going to break my windsheild. Wind is going at about 50 mph.
I take it kind of easy on the streets because I don't want to get water in the car. I got lost in a few potholes on the way to the freeway. One sent water shooting up over the car. I hit the on ramp and start to accellerate. The bottom of the ramp where it connects to the highway is completely flooded. I don't see it until it is too late. I am pretty sure the wheels weren't touching the ground. I glided about 20 feet until I hit "dry land". I was doing about 40mph from Elk Grove to Tracey because that is all the weather would let me do safely. After that it was pretty much bumper to bumper for another two hours. Of course the rain stopped.
I am convinced that all of Lodi was under water. I hydroplaned through that whole town. More than a couple of times, I hit HUGE puddles just when a strong gust of wind blew and I ended up in another lane...
I saw 17 accidents on my way down...
8 cars total single car uncontrolled off the road.
2 turned the wrong way up against the center divide
2 some variation on t-boning the center divide
2 upside down
2 just in ditches
The rest were just fender benders.
total trip time: 3.5 hours
total normal trip time: 1 hour 15 minutes
I have never been so scared of losing my life in a car ever. Not even in snow. Glad to be alive. Worst weekend EVAR to be driving. I am convinced now more than ever that my purchase of a Subaru was the right choice.
