Woot! Just bought another Impreza.

1995 Impreza AWD coupe, 5spd. Cost less than my Prodrives. It's odd tho - AWD but no tach. What gives? Anyone know if you can swap in a dash with a tach on this car?

It's gonna be my g/f's car but maybe a WRX swap when can get her an OBS. We went to Carlsen today and asked about a green/silver '99 OBS that's been there for ages (what she wants). They were asking $8900 which is too high for that car (barely) but right in our price range for financing. Got a call from them saying the only thing she could get because of her credit was a brand new car at $380/ month. Uhhhhhh.. There was a REASON we were checking out the '99 and not the nice '02 next to it (let alone a brand new one for more than I pay for my '03 WRX a month). Silly car dealers. Went immediately and got the coupe. Sweet. 3x AWD cars now. Sheesh.

Yeah, little later. It looks like someone drove it out of a large animal's butt, so I am gonna clean it up. Think bone stock blue/green Impreza coupe with crappy hubcaps and a dent on the L fender.. Soon to have my stock '03 rims and 'handling by screeching margarine' Potenzas.

Gonna try and clean it up this weekend while doing other stuff. Pretty sweet little car though.

Me links to save bandwidth. This car is fun (especially combined with my favourite play area located behind it in the pic). Makes me REALLY want a 2.5RS even more now.

Awesome. Nice find The only way you can get a tach in there is to pull one out of a cluster from a car with the same style cluster. My friend bought an older Impreza with no tach and we tried to get one through the dealership, but they want $350 or something crazy like that. Our local subaru wrecker sold us a cluster out of an old automatic impreza outback for $25 (the tach out of an automatic will work fine).

To install the tach, unscrew the 3 silver screws in the back of the cluster that hold the tach in, pull the tach out and install into new cluster. Don't mess with any of the screws in the front. Don't forget to swap over some of the lightbulbs from the junker's cluster to your cluster since you will be missing bulbs behind the tach.

That's hot! Thanks for the info.. She wants an OBS so maybe if we find one price right, this car will be for sale. Till then tho I am gonna pour in some cash on mad tuneup craziness, a new fender and a few other things. The interior smells like moose butt so that's job 1.

Dayam it. Did you find this in Craigslist.org? I think I emailed the same guy right after you bought it!

Yeah, this was on Craigslist. Thanks for all the emails and PM's folks, sorry if I pissed anyone off. I have missed deals like this before, bout time I guess. The car is gonna be for my g/f who's car was swallowed by SF sewage in the Mission earlier this year. Just got back the claim forms with a 'sorry thanks for playing' sort of message so she is SOL on that. She wants a Scooby so this is a great start for her. We spent the weekend ripping the interior out and have finally gotten rid of "the Smell" (tm) and the car is really nice to drive. Gotta smog it still and do the timing belt ASAP. By the way anyone know how much that should cost ballpark to get done here in the Bay? Anyone know a good Suby mechanic?

Have some pics from ripping it apart, I will see if any came out.

Yeah, I have bent over for one before (300ZX Turbo). I got a coupon for a $249 timing belt change on my WRX from Subaru of SC. I was sittin there scratching my head wondering if it was $249 off the price (naaa can't be) or $249 total. Seemed crazy either way, so I thought I would ask at Carlsen how much it would cost on the Impreza since it should be way simpler than the WRX. They say $495. I say Holy Cack!

Yeah, let's practice on my car. If we can do it within a month or so, and I can find a shop manual for it - I am down. Just don't want to do it alone, it really helps to have someone around for tedious stuff like this. If we break the engine though I would hate (hate hate) to put an EJ18 back in there.

PS this car is fun as hell!
PPS brakes on a WRX are easy peasy - took longer to take off the wheel.
