Called building trust, that's why your wife and you got married?... In any case, it's fine to have your own account, her to have her own account, as long as you guys have another 3rd joint account to be responsible together for. IE mortgage, bills, kid expenses, etc.

It's fine to have your own account for a few of your own fun toys, but don't let it totally negate the whole foundation of dealing with money. That's part of trusting someone.... and yea there are a lot of fails I've heard of between families and someone spending too much or using the money for the mortgage, etc.

Be responsible and proactive, I think just avoiding the situation isn't the concern of mine. The concern of that is there is deeper problem which is why you won't have a joint account in the first place. Problem solve the situation, don't negate it.

If my husband brought a BRZ/FR-S home (assuming we'd be in a situation that could actually support a new car purchase) I'd be thrilled. We already have two Foresters - I'd love to have an impractical sports car for once.
