Witnessed a crazy accident
So I was driving back from work (yeah, sucks that i had to work today) going back to Santa Cruz. I drank too much water and had to pee. So i was driving just a little faster. And there was the BMW behind my *** the whole time. He didn't go faster and pass me when I was in the slow lane so I don't know what he was thinking. Coming into a right sweeper, now I know the road was wet so I already slow down before the turn. I started to get a little oversteer, so I countered just a tad and back to normal. Soonest I came out of the turn I looked back. I saw the BMW had WAY too much oversteer and went up the hill a little and flipped side way taking 1 1/2 lanes.
I guess he slamed on the brake or something. I was going to pull aside and use the call box, but the car the BMW was about to pass just pulled over, so I left.
Just to clear things up before people think I was nuts. I was only going about 55 in that turn. I [edit]wasn't[/edit] flying like there was no tomorrow.

i must say, that was pretty scary to watch. I mean, I've seen it happen bunch of times on WRC where they flip or whatever. But this is my first time to witness something like this.
Man, now to think about it. If my car was slipping at that speed. It's time for me to get rid of these RE92s.
Yes, I still have them people. I think they are good enough for my daily driving since I am not a mad driver like that BMW dude!

Weird man... the way you tell the story makes everything sound so casual. If that's the case, he must've done something really stupid when you weren't looking.
What do you think the radius of this turn was? Was there a posted/suggested speed for the turn? No banking I take it?

I think it was one of those 40mph turn. But I am not sure... Well, it might have sounded a little casual from me it's because I've been in similar situation like this before. So for me I kind of got used to it. First of all, I am not that great of a driver... I suck in my opionion. But I have been to few rallyx and road rallies. Especially this one I did in Oregon where there was nothing but gravel for 11 hours. I've learned few things in the past and I think that's why it was okay for me. I mean, if this were to happen to me few years back, I might have made the same mistake as him. As my car started to oversteer, I didn't freak, over correct or brake. I just gently counter steered and out the turn I went, kind of like in my previous rallies. Again, I still suck at it. I mean, i could see how someone would freak and slam on the brake or something, which would have induced more oversteer. Then again, he was behind me, so I don't really know what he did. I just hope he/she was okay.

The other bad crash I witnessed was was just past summit in light fog. A brand new pick up truck which didn't even have plates on it passed everybody on the right doing 60ish. He entered a right hand sweeper, the back end got wide, the truck went up the hill on the right then flipped over. It was sliding on the cab and I could see driver and passenger dangling. They were held to the seat by their seat belts. It was the gnarliest accident I've ever seen! The vehicle was still sliding as we drove by it. We drove over bits of metal and crap. The look of terror on the people in the truck is something I will never forget.
ive seen a couple nasty accidents in my day on 17... one WEIRD/STUPID one though was when this old VW bus spun on "Valley Suprise"... did a 360 without hitting any walls or cars, then drove off EVEN FASTER.

and I would agree that ALOT, (not ALL), but alot of BMW drivers DO think they own the friggin' road.....and DO think they are "god" (for lack of a better word), atleast when they are behind the wheel.
I am not dissin' on BMW drivers.....my parents have an X5......but for the majority, that statement is true from what I have witnessed.

i was riding next to a corvette about a year ago in North Carolina on I-95. We were just minding our own business when i looked over at him and he was talking on his cell phone, eating a McMuffin and looking for something on his passenger seat.
We were riding next to eachother when i noticed two upcoming trucks next to eachother going about 35-40mph trying gain speed off an onramp. I honked my horn to get the guys attention and motioned toward the two trucks. He gives me a glance, then gives me a mean look on like i was interupting his conversation.
I hit my brakes hard to back off and sure enough he plows into the back of the truck and cuts the top off the car off including his upper torso from the shoulders up
Then the car got sandwiched in between the two rear axles of the truck and got crushed into about 5 seperate pieces. Keep in mind he was going about 85mph So... 85mph-40mph= 45mph impact with a large can opener.
