Winter Woes

Thought I would start a thread where people could post issues that are having due to it being Winter now and any issues that the cold might bring.

For myself: At night and early morning, for whatever reason the cold seems to make my passenger fender rattle and make this terrible metallic squeeking. Guessing I'll take it off and lube up the mounting spots.
Also the infamous gas smell on bugeyes which only has a recall in specific states (not California) that my dealership denies even exists.

Anyways post away!

Sometimes I wish I had a pump rig to "hot swap" my coolant with an external tank of preheated reserve, get the car pregamed for rolling out. That's a bit overkill for bay area weather though, nothing some extra warm up idling in the morning won't fix.

That's what an engine block heater is for

My tail lights have been shorted out since the heavy rain. Checked all the bulbs and connections but the fuse still blows instantly when I turn the key. To make matters worse, I really can't afford to pay a professional to spend hours diagnosing an electrical issue right now :/

I have my old set of FXT seats, drivers side has the rip in the corner like all of them do, but has heaters and airbags. $100 they are yours.

My brother had the same problem with his '07 or '08 OBXT. After spending hours diagnosing it myself I found the problem in the wiring harness that goes from the body of the vehicle to the hatch. When I removed the plastic/rubber boot/grommet/hose that protects the wiring I found an exposed wire or wires (I can't recall exactly at this point). I had to add a bit of extra wire, solder it in place, and tuck the extra wire back into the body of the car. The diagnostic was a PITA but so was the actual soldering (but that may be because I'm not very good at it). Either way, that's what I'd check first. Good luck!

I have heated seats, but have never needed them. Then again you always can tell which side of the car I'm on during the winter - the windows completely fog up. Aka I run plenty hot.

Also, this is the bay area. We don't get "winter" here

I don't know about up there but in the Monterey bay it's going below freezing at night now, which is winter enough for me.

It was 26 degrees this morning up here in Sonoma County but without anything other than rain it hardly registers on the winter radar.

This weather makes my car experience a back pressure pop when cranking up in the mornings and due to the dense air, engine performance is noticeably and in turn more fun.

Oh wait, those are positives.

Thank you Brian! Excellent suggestion. I'll have to check that out tomorrow.
