Windows 10

Anybody get a message/notification on their windows 7/windows 8 today asking if they wanted to get a free upgrade to a full version of windows 10 when available? Who is on windows 7 and are planning to upgrade? I clicked yes for the upgrade, but still on the fence about it.

Unless its your secondary system and dont care about possibly messing it up then go for it

I personally would wait or install it on a test machine

If you want to get rid of the Nag icon... look for Update KB3035583 and uninstall it.

Personally I like my Win7 laptop the way it is but wouldn't mind having something else run Win10.

Windows 10 is a mash up of the start menu and win7 desktop with a better browser stock and security out of the box, while still optimized for touch .
I would upgrade as long as you know for sure that your unit has all available drivers from the mfg.
It'll be released 7/29

I registered for the upgrade just for kicks. Will they be doing different versions of 10? I'll be upgrading from Win7 ultimate.

They will have a Windows 10 Pro version. But the upgrade is for Windows 10 Home (the basic version). Windows 10 is supposedly the "last" windows Microsoft will ever release. Windows 10 Home will install updates automatically (cannot choose to update manually). You also lose Windows Media Center with a Windows 10 upgrade.

I've used beta builds of win 10 (for work) and I love it. I will be upgrading for sure. I don't mind 8 anymore since the majority of use is on touchscreen PC's.

you can get rid of the nag quite easily. click the arrow on the task bar, select customize and then select to hide notifications. That worked fine on all 5 of my home machines.

Sticking to W7, until W10 has proven itself.
