I know it's a Neon, but what are some VALID reasons for hating them so much. I personally think it's great that an American car company stepped up and brought a compact vehicle to market that can hang with most of the imports. So...let's hear the legitimate reasons why you guys hate 'em so much.

I don't hate 'em, I just thought that guy that puked in the back seat was funny as hell

 

1. For God's sake it's just a glorified Neon
2. So far, 100% of the SRT-4 drivers I've encountered are ding-holes
3. It's butt-fugly
4. It's an American car
5. It's front wheel drive
6. I dunno, it just annoys the hell outta me!

It's funny -- our natural enemy was supposed to be the Lancer Evolution. I guess it still is, kinda, and we give it the respect that a worthy enemy deserves. The SRT-4 is like the obnoxious American tourist, or the loud, arrogant kid with blue hair

I'm just curious why everyone here talks crap. I would NEVER own one just because I'll never own a FWD car. Aside from that I think it's great to have more fast/fun cars on the market. So let's hear from all you negative nancys.

I like em. I've met one SRT-4 owner and he was a real nice guy (older though, which may be why).

I like the looks of them ok, they're a bit bulgy, but MUCH better than a regular Neon.

I wouldn't want to drive one though, their crash test ratings with the IIHS really are horrible.

Choku: I totally agree about the EVO. Butt-fugly is totally subjective though. What I'm trying to get at is why it "annoys the hell outta" you. The only person I've ever talked to who owned was seemed pretty cool, so I can't speak from much personal experience about the owners.

Anyone who "hates" a car because it's A.) faster and B.) cheaper than their car, has some maturity issues.

We just need to get Honduh into the fast cheap turbo car scene.

 

That's true, about butt-fugly being subjective. I'm not quite sure what it is about them that annoys me so much -- maybe because they somehow reek of the Fast and the Furious mindset (a style/attitude that I abhor). I've had few SRT-4's try to pick races with me at the stupidest times and places: traffic jams, rush hour, know what I mean? Either that, or they'll give the rice-boy mug-you-out stare-down.
Oh, and reson number 8:

It's funny, most of the replies have been from people that don't have much bad to say. I definitely understand the hatred of the "fast and the furious" mindset as I can't stand that crap either.

I'm absolutely amazed Honda hasn't gotten into the foray yet either.

I don't hate the SRT-4.... I have respect for it for being such an amazing performance bargin... it's the SRT-4 drivers that are tools... well from all the ones I have encountered so far.

I still would never buy one though... $20k and manual rear windows...mmmm no thanks. That and FWD is blah.

And it's still just a "Neon"

Honda hasn't dived in yet because their credo is NA power. No turbo models in the Honda line-up, not even in Japan. Even their JGTC entries are non-turbo (i.e. Mobil 1 NSX, ARTA NSX, etc.)
Interestingly enough, Honda's not considered to be too sporty in Japan, except for the S2000, NSX, and sportbikes of course. Conversely, Subaru's seen as a sporty marque in Japan since the Impreza and Legacy turbo models are most famous there (not like here where most people equate Subaru with soccer-mom ).
Besides, Honda already has healthy enough market sure with its legions of loyal Integra, Civic, and RSX buyers (S2000 too, but there numbers are much smaller).

 

i dont hate the srt-4 either...i dont like fwd, and i dont think is is a supirior car to the wrx. i think the problem is the owners, and the rest of the weirdos out there thinking that it is a better car cause its got a fastAr 1/4 mile time.

All i'm sayin is...Honda slaps a turbo and IC on an otherwise $10k civic, giving it 200+hp and sells it for $14k, they will own the market.
