Why I love my Hellas

Sometimes people need a blast from the Hellas to wake them out of their stupor.

Like this morning when this lady is on her phone when I'm trying to merge onto the exit lane and wouldn't follow protocol. She had her window open and I hope the person on the other end of the call reminded her to pay attention and drive safely once they got the full 118db.

Haha no.

And accords are second only to Camry's.

That is what external wastegate is for. But if that's not possible, I guess hellas do the trick as well.

On a semi related side note... does anyone know of a Semi Truck style (deep) air horn that could be retrofitted?

People always jump/get scared when they walk past my car when I lock it twice so the horns will go off. Lol

Plus it makes me laugh when I'm in traffic and someone decides to cut in last minute to exit, the horns do an excellent job to make the driver know what he/she did wrong.

Lol

It can be done yep, you will need a mini tank, and a compressor put in too, but I have done it on a few trucks, a VW squareback, and a fiat 128/l before. If you really want to go big, Train horns with short shafts on them, I can get about 170db out of them with some work.

These do the job: WOLO TRUCK AIR HORNS AND HIGH PRESSOR ON-BOARD AIR SYSTEMS

We were asked a couple times to take them off the Speedtoys tow truck but they helped SOFA KING much when some racer would spin and then wander out onto a hot track scratching his helmet. They get attention NOW which can save lives.

My buddy had a habit of hitting the horns to spook people here and there and those things would make you straight up jump out of your skin. I would be all the way across the paddock and hear this HOOOOOOOOOOOONK and then screams. Driving through SF on the way to Sears I think he just about made some dude throw his phone in the air. Quite possibly too much fun.

For regular cars and motorcycles, I use this one:
Robot Check Robot Check

It's really small and does not require a compressor so it's super easy to mount. Put on 2 or 3 and, well, more. These things saved my life more times than I know on motorcycles over the years. Lots of fun to have a couple in a Justy grille.

Hellas are awesome, but it's a very shrill, high-pitched tone. Both of those are a little more commanding. The train horn is just silly, but - you need to remember that the compressor and air lines all need to be installed and go somewhere.

Dang, 170dB. My pops found an old HUGE train horn assembly at a swap meet and got it working with compressed air. Stuck a small compressor tank and the horn in the trunk of a '73 Corolla and well, he could get about 3 blasts out of it before it needed a refill. Oh lawdy. I'm glad no one had camera phones in the 80's.

I really don't want to deal with a compressor tank and all that crap.
The Stebel is interesting, it's a 530 hz tone which is a little higher than I had in mind...

But interesting

So you don't need to go a BIG tank, you can go one that straps up under the transmission, or another open spot. Also some of them you can go no tank at all, but the best you can get is around 135db from a tankless setup.

So you go a instant on, mini compressor, and then...

Amazon.com: BIG RIG Single Trumpet Truck Air Horn- Super Loud-Deep Tone 150db: Automotive Amazon.com: BIG RIG Single Trumpet Truck Air Horn- Super Loud-Deep Tone 150db: Automotive

and that should put you around 135-140db, enough for people 2 blocks away to hear you.

Train horns are more gratifying on a nice big truck cause you can use the compressor to run air tools too bigger the better
