if you are buying straight cash then ya maybe. but i'm leasing it so i can drive it hard and not care about anything. in which case the residual and money factor are MUCH better on the 328i. and the net cap cost is a few thousand $ below MSRP. no way i would have gotten than good of a deal on a 135i

as for why change to bmw from my wrx. in the last 26 month i spent ~$6000 on maintenance for my WRX. nothing broke other than clutch and some axle boots and i didn't mod. just oil changes, tires, brakes and other wear items. car has 84000 miles and i figured it would just get worse $$ from there.. plus i was getting waaay to ana1 when my fiance drove the wrx.. because you know.. it was my car.. and i had no warranty.

with the bmw.. she can just have at it and don't care. its a great feeling w/ the leased free maintenance car... now i can focus on the rest of life and not be like.. ZOMG what was that new sound rattling in the engine bay.. DAMN is she damaging the wrx clutch?

my wrx was stock '02, so its similar performance wise.

I got to take a coworkers 328i+sport package out for some highway driving from san mateo to palo alto then back up page mill to 280.

VERY nice car. everything is solid in that car, it has great get up and go even for an automatic(the one I drive at least), and has all the features I want minus nav.

as much as I want a new car(my 04 wrx has 107k on it), I am looking forward to financial freedom of not having a $500 a month car payment.

Same boat for me man. I nearly traded in and got a new wagon. Was even looking at forester xt sports but I only have like 7 more payments and I'm done. Then I can spent a year paying off the wife's car and some other bills. When both of our cars are paid off we'll probably replace hers with a nice SUV. I'd like a tribeca she wants a toyota. We'll see. By then my wagon will need a new motor so if I decide to keep it around I'll be looking for a wrecked 07 sti.

Oh.. and I have about 127k on mine. Still ticking. Got a triple bipas not to long ago..haaa.

oh... and good move on leasing the bwm. I hear you don't really want those things after about 90k anyways.

I'd love a 335i... mmmmmm.

i got $9115 (my loan payoff amount) the car was '02 wrx wagon with 84k miles. i think i got a pretty solid deal on the trade considering NADA trade value is like 8600

i rolled in with a stack of receipts including clutch, new tires and brakes, and just had the car freshly washed.. so i think that helped my case

<EDIT>: this was a really tough call for me.. i took really really good care of the car and it was in fantastic shape. but i do use it for HPDEs and i cane it in the mountains often. i think it had lots of life left in it.. someone out there is going to get an awesome deal on the car. if you guys know anyone looking for a WRX contact John Meier at weatherford BMW asap before they send it to auction.

i guess in the end my wrapped my head around it with a ) predictable cash outflow. $500/mo thats it. period. just gas it and go. b ) i won't be obnoxious whenever the mrs wants to drive it c ) if i have to take a partner or clients to lunch (happening more often) i wont get any more comments about the gauges/hood scoop/fast and furious etc etc

</edit>

btw weatherford BMW is kick a$$ they were great. even during negotiating they were nice ppl.. real pros and honest about their business

i rolled in with lease wizard software and the invoice pricing sheet for the E90s and it was a smooth process.. they had the exact car i wanted.. base model 328i manual trans plus sport package and xenon lights..

pics cuz i'm excited

NICE! that is definitely what i was planning to do originally given how close the MSRPs of the 135i and the 328i are

however once i ran the numbers i found that the invoice pricing on the 135i is much closer to MSRP than the 328i (in '07 the MSRP to invoice spread was much tighter than in '08 for the 328i also) also i am leasing, and the money factor and residual values were much much more favorable for the 328i as well

all of those things combined put the 135 lease out of my 'comfy' zone into 'silly' zone. i kinda wish i could have just said f-it and thrown down $$ for the 135.. but then again.. along that line of thinking.. i wish i could throw down $$ for a ///M3 haha

when i ran the $s the 135i is actually more expensive to lease than the 335i... (36mo/15k mile year 0 cap cost... and the varying MFs and residuals with cap cost reduction of MSRP of the 135 and a discount for both 328 and 335 i came up with monthly payments after tax of $485 / $591 / $630 for 328i / 335i / 135i

anyway... sorry for the long post.. i'm sure this info is all old news to you at this point. best of luck with your own deal.. maybe i'll see you at BMW CCA or NASA events!

Yeah, I was thinking about leasing one too, but the lease rates are ridiculous so I decided to buy. I put down almost half so my monthly's are pretty reasonable. I figure Ill enjoy it for 4 years and when the maintenence pack is up, Ill sell the car and get something else.
