i used to climb a lot in the past, did a couple of competitions, and set routes for a couple of local comps. a few years ago, i was doing a dyno move, and tore my pectoral muscle off the sternum. since then, i haven't been climbing much, save for a couple of bouldering trips at the local indoor gym.

i set the routes for beginner (5.8) and intermediate (5.10b-ish) on a man made wall. i was typically nice to beginners, but there were a couple of really sadistic moves on the 5.10b's.

when i got hurt, i was bouldering, coming out from under a 45 degree overhang onto a 90 degree face. i was in such good shape, that when i lunged and missed i was able to hold myself bent arm with only my right arm. the problem was that i twisted under tension, and could hear the muscle fibers popping off before i had the good sense to let go and stem the damage. it took about two years to completely heal.

to be honest, i can't even remember what the route was rated. i'd never seen someone make it before, and i bailed on what i'd say was the crux of the route. most of the people that climbed there regularly couldn't even make it out of the grotto where the route started.

I used to climb at Ironworks. I want to go back sometime, however there is now a City Beach in fremont. But for somereason, i don't think i'm gonna like it there.

I've done a 5.9, best i can do. I have zero technique. I never took lessons, i just climbed.

i never took lessons either, i learned about the equipment from a buddy and his dad. after that, it was just spending time clinging to the wall, and in the gym developing strength and technique.
