Who has a lightweight bumper beam?
Just wanted to ask a few questions for those with lightweight bumper beams.
Also... for those with FMIC, what did you do about the bumper beam?

I think the only thing you are putting at danger is yourself/passengers and obviously the engine.
I think others getting hit would have less injury/damage. I just figure, if you hit a telephone pole head on without a bumper beam, the pole might replace your center console since the beam disperses the energy elsewhere.
not that i care, i have a 60 lb steel hood to worry about!
ouch and ouch!

Ok, I have personally seen a low speed frontal collision and here's what the stock beam did:
It at least sucked up some of the impact, bent the frame rails it was attached to, and protected the radiator and a/c condenser a little.
However, the front the U-brace also gets contacted in a frontal collision and it appeared (I'm not expert) that the U-brace is a major contributor to the frontal collision and distributes the collision energy all the way down the car.
I would GUESS that the bumper beam is very useful in tying together the front frame rails... so as the beam gets crushed inwards it makes the frame rails flair inwards instead of outwards. This would seem to keep the structure "together" so that everything can crumple with the energy.
You know, we could put 1" thick steel plates around our car too and that would make it even safer.
