A bolt in Cage can hurt resale (speaking from Exp). Not many want to buy a car with at the minimum 16 holes in the floorboard 8 holes else where. a weld in cage can be removed with a little work (same amount of work as unbolting the bolted in cage only your cutting welds or where the pipe connects to the flat plate) and the welded points are easily hidden under the carpet and no holes are left.

I would be pissed if a seller didn't tell me they had a bolt in cage and i found out when under the car by seeing a 4 hole groupings.

I really can't believe that removing a weld in cage in order to resell a car would be just as easy as a bolt in, or that it would look as cleanly after removed. hmmm interesting.

You remove interior, cut the pipe from the welded point, reinstall interior. damn near same process as removing a bolt in just unbolting not cutting. The difference is you have many holes left from the bolts and now you can either pay someone to fill the holes OR you can put bolts into them to plug said holes. Also either style you have to replace the carpet unless you want to leave it with holes.

Have you ever installed a Roll cage?

Cut pipe? Inside the car? That can get messy, of course. Unless you protect literally everything, you will have teeny burning metal meteors hitting where-ever the sparks go.

"Reinstall interior?" What about all the pieces that were modified so the cage would fit, or were broken/worked over in the process?

Any cage install, bolt in or weld-in, should obviously be disclosed to the new owner. One is not largely better than the other (unless you prefer your rust to come from exposed metal due to welding instead of cutting for some reason).

Unless your a complete DIP S, you would cover any and all exposed surfaces when cutting metal inside your car, same thing the welded did when the cage was welded in. I dont get why people seem to think that cutting something is so much harder than unbolting bolt through bolts. Have you ever tried to remove a bolt in cage by your self? Ever see how the bolt ends are after a season of driving and such. Seized bolts are a pain to remove. Guess It is just me who doesnt see a weld in as being "Harder" to remove.

Yes reinstall interior, now sure why that is a question. since you have to remove the interior to remove either cage unless you bolted the cage on top of the carpet, o wait you have to remove the carpet now and replace it. So again interior comes out.
Any cage bolt in or weld in will cause you to alter/modify interior pieces. So either way bolt in or weld in those parts have to be replaced.

For me personally, I don't care - it's your car, and what you do to it is up to you. Maybe this is because I grew up in Hawaii and saw people try to be "bad-***" in a pink metal-flake mini truck rolling on D's with the bed spinning in the air but I have a "hey whatever" sort of attitude to it all. I want to do my Justy's hood in wood-grain vinyl but every time I have mentioned that, people say it's stupid, blah blah blah. I am still going to do it! Because I want to. But, I have to be aware that there are those people who feel it's important to point out obvious stuff. Like the "herrafrushed" thing. Hey whatever - but you must be aware that by doing that, you are gonna get harassed a little. It's just the way it goes.

Getting upset that someone is teasing or making fun of something like this cage is almost worse than the people giving you crap about it. This will never be reconciled; you will need to either get comfortable liking what you like "for whatever reason" or start to like what others like so that they do not feel uncomfortable by your difference that they do not understand, and then tease you because of this.

I drive around a 25 year old Subaru that "no one has heard of" listening to a MiniDisc wearing plaid and vintage glasses that I had before it was cool. So, yeah. I know that if I want to not get crap for these things I like and enjoy, I need to conform and get office specs and an MP3 iProduct. But I don't.

To be frank, I think the cage is silly - but if it makes you happy, I would help you put it in. Whatever.

I hope I did not offend, I hope this makes sense.
Here's my very relevant post. I used to have an in dash mini disc player in my car back in the day! Thought I was the only one had to explain what it was every time someone got in the car.
