i wonder if you get pulled over in japan for having a mustang or corvette because that's their import, contrast to how we get pulled over here in the States.

Actually, no, American sports cars don't get pulled over because it's usually fairly well-to-do people driving them moderately. With import fees, taxes, tariffs, and whatnot, a basic Mustang GT goes for about $50k, so you don't see too many on the road (since for that price you can get something a lot nicer). Furthermore, the whole muscle car drag racing scene isn't as popular in Japan as it is here; most "Amesha" (slang for American car) owners like to play dress up with their cars instead... kinda like ricers or Hella Flush guys like to do with their Japanese cars here Although, the lowriding scene is a fairly big subculture that's just outside of the mainstream.

Driving an American sportscar in metro Tokyo, especially a modded and/or vintage one, is sure to get you some attention from pedestrians because of the novelty value, I guarantee you that. Tokyo Metro PD couldn't care less about it, though, unless you were doing something dumb.
