So I have been noticing a trend that I lose about 1qt of oil after about 1500-2000. I look under my car and don't see any oil and the ground where I park doesnt have any noticeable oil stains. Any idea whats going on? Is it my vf39 thats burning it? I dont see any smoke coming from it so im just unsure. Looking for ideas that I can check. I had my valve covers replaced last year and I replaced the turbo return line (what a PIT!) about 6months ago.

Thanks!
I know where its going:

Could be a bad PCV valve, valve seals, turbo seals, rings or ringlands. What motor are you running?

its an ej25 hybrid w/vf39 & STi Topmount. I bought it with these mods already done and I added a Turboback exhaust, im pretty sure the previous owner slapped on the OEM exhaust to get it smogged before he sold it.

If it's an OEM EJ257 with stock pistons, I'm willing to bet a cracked ringland is your culprit. Time for a compression/leakdown test. Or just keep putting oil in it ;)

Yeah, being the semi-poor college student that I am, I wish I had the money to get tests done, and head up to you guys for a proper tune/maintenance. Maybe some day haha.

Well if you can't afford to get the test done, you definitely can't afford to fix it. So I would just recommend driving it easy and topping off your oil often.

if you can undo the plugs yourself borrow a compression tester from autozone/kragen and diy - worth the time and easy to do if you've got basic tools / time to get in there. compression test can reveal a lot for sure.

good luck!

Using a bore scope, look & see if your pistons look like this:

Just switched to t6 5w40 myself. Only had 1/3 qt consumption after a 9k oci on rp530 tho. Most was blow by.

We shall see the difference with the new oil...
+1 for the borescope.
If ur in foster city weekdays after 8pm hit me up and you can use the borescope i got here at work.

This might be a dumb question, But you need to pull the spark plugs to use the borescope correct?

Yep. Need to see inside the hole to your piston heads. Unless you want to take the block heads off which u dont.

Positive crankcase ventilation......
And he answered it in the post right after eq tuning asked. Its quoted even........lol

compression/leakdown tests are by far the best and easiest test to check for worn rings. as stated, its as simple as removing plugs and coil and giving her a few cranks. be sure to have batt charging as this drains a lot of power. test kits can be rented or bough at any auto store or u can pick up a cheap HFT set. although, id suggest renting one. I know what PCV stands for dude. I'm asking why he thinks it would be were large quantities of oil are going.

And I saw that it was quoted after I posted. I hadn't read those 2 posts.
