gone, with the demise of the dot-com boom. unless you're looking for seasonal employment, or high turnover entry level jobs you're going to have a tough time. the last time i went to blockbuster, the guy behind the counter was a software engineer with four years experience, but blockbuster was the only gig he could find.

What about Home Depot? I heard their base pay starts out quite high too - close to that of In-N-Out's.
Sorry if these suggestions are kind of low, it's just what came to mind.

The beginning of college work season is soon upon us, so start checking out around the malls. when I worked at Best Buy they were always dying to get people who could work as a Sup. Something about people not showing up consistently. I worked there for about 6 months before they offered me a sup position. I didn't take it because I didn't have the time.
Moral of the story:
retail sucks. however, if you put in a little time, don't skim the till, show a good work ethic, show up, and ask, you can get a somewhat-decent paying entry level job.
At Best Buy, by the time I left college (2 years) they were pushing me to go to work for them full-time with benefits. One of my coworkers picked up a salaried job at corporate (Minneapolis) with a little more time in.
Otherwise, the Army is ALWAYS looking for linguists. $8k bonus and job security (minus the whole getting shot thing
) for 5 years. College grads start at E-4. Not a bad deal if you can follow seemingly (or really) senseless orders.

He then quit Home Dumpo, and was offered a position at BEST BUY, selling appliances.....he again was promoted like 2-3 times in about 3-4 months....I think he is currently making roughly $18-$20/hr maybe more.....
