atleast 256mb video card
7.1 out audio card
dvd-rw drive

Well, if you're not lazy where you assemble your own computer, go to pricewatch.com

If you're kinda lazy and don't want to go through all that you can go to monarchcomputer.com

This is where I got my 3700+ MSI K8N Neo4 plantinum etc for my new computer

IMHO, any prebuilt is gonna be not worth what you're paying. If you go to www.Anandtech.com and look at their reviews of different components of your computer, it'll be cheaper, run more efficiently, and have only what you want on it.

Basically what you need is just a Mobo + CPU, and everything else you can buy at any local shop. I got my Mobo (MSI K8N Neo4 Platinum), CPU (AMD 3700+), vid card (Radeon X800 XL PCIe), 1 gig of Corsair RAM, all for around 700$ and built it myself. Throw in a few HDs (probably around 300$ at most), and your sound card, and a DVD drive, software, and I'm sure you can probably get this system for under $2k if you're willing to spend a night building it.

If you want a TV tuner, I'd suggest going with an ATi All-In-Wonder, which is a vid card + TV + cable.

EDIT: Oh yeah, I forgot to add, if you want to search for random really good deals. There's ******************** www.fatwallet.com and www.woot.com

I'd recommend anything BUT the ATi. Its one of the few left that doesn't do onboard MPEG2 encoding on the card. Besides that, it has known driver issues.

The Hauppauge PCR250 or PVR500 or PVR150 are better choices.

my buddy builds computers and laptops as one of his means of living. he can match dell's 700m laptop in specs and pricing if you are looking for a laptop, or get a custom built desktop with warranty as well if you want.

PM me, unless you're just gonna get a dell.

If you want to pay out the booty.

Only way to go is to build your own, any other way and youre wasting money.
