If you bring it by the shop (www.gruppe-s.com) we'll do it for you. We can even take you through what to do so you can do it yourself next time. It will cost you lunch though

That's a good idea to rinse. I didn't even think of that. But being the idiot purist I am, I'll probably rinse using the expensive stuff.

Is it OK if I put a valve: https://ssl2.adhost.com/fumotovalve/

Also I am renting so I cannot change oil in the underground parking lot. I have to find a place where I can do it...
Pla, np man.

Many people use the Fumotovalve, I've just always been skeptical of it because I'm scared the lever could open up the valve accidentally, and because the threaded part of the valve might extend further into the oilpan than the drain plug, and the inner diameter of the drain hole in the valve can't be as large as the drain opening, so I'm concerned about a small amount of old oil not escaping.

I've never been interested in the valve mainly because I don't mind dealing with the drain plug every time.

Here's a sticky thread with torque specs for the drain plugs and such:

Do it myself, the Fumoto valve rules

For oil changes (among many other small jobs), the Rhino Ramps work great. Between the ramps and the Fumoto valve, it's only about 60 seconds from starting until I am back inside enjoying a beer and watching TV while the oil drains

Like others said, get a good filter wrench. And at least on the 02 WRX, the plastic shield is NOT in the way if you have a good filter wrench (i.e. my plastic shield hasn't been off in well over a year, but obviously I've done a few oil changes in that timeframe).

Make sure you put oil in the new filter and lube up the o-ring on it before putting it on.

Many mechanics are lazy and don't do this... it could damage your car, and you will have zero oil pressure for a few seconds if you don't.

Also, you don't need to jack up the car unless you are lowered. The car needs to be level to drain properly.

I've tried many oils but keep going back to Quaker State 10-30. It rocks.

Should I bring anything except the car?

Also, while I am at it, does the stock car has blow off valve?
What I read about it seems it is very useful. Should I install one?
Tomorrow is not good for us, Thursday would work fine though. You would need to bring the oil you wish to use and a filter (or we can sell you a OEM unit).

Thumbs up

Not sure about the '05,but on my '04 the plastic shiled is in the way of the filter so I cut a hole big enough for me to reach the filter without removing the shiled. Don't worry, cutting a hole won't hurt.

I just drive it right to where my driveway starts to drop off. Makes changing the oil soo much easier. No ramps needed.
