I'm going to change my coolant tomorrow so where can i dispose/recylce it? Anywhere in the sunset or richmond district?

I would contact a nearby gas station that has a mechanic garage, or an independant repair facility, as they have provisions for disposal of coolant and the like.

If you're unable to find a local business that'll take it, there's the San Francisco Household Hazardous Waste Collection Facility which is across town from you but free for use by residents of the City. They will also take other household chemical wastes like paint and aerosol cans so if you have any of that stuff laying around you could unload it all in one trip.

Another option.....and be SURE you check before you do it!......

Many municipal sewer systems are set up to be just fine at processing relatively small quantities of Ethylene Glycol (main ingredient in Antifreeze). In fact, the bacteria the sewage treatment plants have THRIVE on the stuff!

In other words, it MIGHT be ok to simply flush it down the toilet!

Note also I said sewer system, NOT the storm drain (which often goes straight to the Bay......obviously not a good place to dump antifreeze!).

Please be certain that this is the proper way to dispose of antifreeze. I don't mean to contradict Impala SS AutoX, but ethylene glycol is toxic to both humans and their pets. I know that you said sewer systems rather than storm drains but used antifreeze has other contaminants besides its original chemical ingredients, just as used motor oil has carcinogens as a product of blowby crankcase gasses. I'm reasonably sure that disposing of used antifreeze down any drain is hazardous and not recommended.

Thanks guys for the advice. I'd rather be safe and sure so i'm going to take it to the 76 service station.
