You aren't gonna be like that guy with the Ferrari that used to terrorize Highway 5 at night until he was caught are you?
Matte black car, infrared headlights, nightvision goggles, flying past cops clocking him at 190 like the invisible car?
I seem to recall it took like 3 helicopters and 20 squad cars to get him but they did eventually.

IR headlights and night vision goggles! Dude! That is a sick idea!

That dude must have been one smart sucka!

Question:

At 190 MPH, that Ferrari could outrun just about any rotory winged aircraft out there. Most Choppers top out at 140-175ish (I take my Army pilot exam today, so I do know what I am talking about ). How did they stop him?

Just wondering.

no matter how fast you are, you still can't outrun a Motorola all you need are some radios, squad cars on standby, a spike strip and you'd get the guy eventually. that said, being able to outrun helicopters rocks.

with all the cargo area in a lambo, you'd only be able to run maybe a couple of kilos at a time, and they've have to sit in the passenger seat!

It might have been a lamborghini, but I'm pretty sure he was just out to speed.
They ended up catching him with IR gear, a military helicopter and lots of manpower and planning.
He had been doing it for along time too.
The CHP got tired of it I guess.
So once an officer got a hit on a speeding invisible car, they closed in a big net many miles long. I can't remember how long, but I do remember being amazed at the sheer length of road they were controlling.
The military helicopter tracked him, the cars moved up behind and they put a whole-road road block in place in front of him. They blocked all the exits in between too. Basically forced him to go straight and closed in behind him.
I'm sure someone can find the article with a search.

IF you think the IR stuff is nifty, you'll love the guy down near LA that can paint your car like 11 different kinds of pavement color and texture.
You could drive highway 5 in a matching asphalt colored-textured car with your IR gear. Impossible to see at night from the air you'd be. And pretty hard to see from the side if you went with the rim and tire matching job.
Of course other drivers wouldn't see you and you constantly have to stay away from them.
The world is a crazy place.

if you got a paintjob like that, you might as well go ahead and try to make your car as stealthy as possible in the civillian realm. radar absorbing materials and heat shielding/diffusers to reduce your IR signature. the heat sig from a Ferrari or Lambo's mid engine would be enough that a chopper could track you easily using only FLIR -- which is probably what the CHP used to nail him.

i picked up a GEN I mono, handheld with a n illuminator from BIG 5 sporting goods for like $130 a few years ago.

current CIVILIAN models offer up to GEN III monocular ones but you are looking at over $2000...

a few mil-spec ones could be had. ones that are binocs and flip down. google it.

Not to totally change the subject...but in Japan they have a suit that makes you invisible. It has little cameras and projects all over the suit. Looks like the "predator". If you want I can have my friend send the link
