if you're talking about the TD04 turbo it is not worth it at all so don't even waste your time and money.

If the turbo is out of the car and not putting you out of commission, send it to Crucial Racing or the tried and true Deadbolt Enterprises.

Crucial is located in San Fran so they're local.
The shop where the porting is done is in Santa Clara, again local.
That guy has lots of experience too.

are there really no gains/dollar benefits from going for something like deadbolt's TD04 monster rebuild over a new turbo? what would be the hp/tq gains for a rebuilt stock turbo?

just curious

Everything i've read from other's postings points to very little early spool up gained just from the porting and polishing. The turbo is very, very small. it doesn't suck that much air in to warrant the work/money it takes.

none. The only way you would gain hp/tq. from rebuilding the turbo is if the one removed from the car has blown bearings and doesn't spin well.

If you want to keep your stock td04 turbo in your wrx but get the best spool up possible, get heat coated headers, uppipe, and heat side housing of the turbo. this keeps as much heat as possible inside the exhaust manifold to spin up the turbine.
Also get a manual boost controller and a pro-tune.

for $400, its still not a viable option, i could only see someone doing this if they wanted to go after a stock turbo record or something, otherwise, pocket that money and get a bigger snail
