So they can only take your license for a month and fine you $500?

$500 and a 1 month suspension isn't bad?!

They don't seem to mention here that it is also a 2 point offense, but it is.

The other one to look out for is 22350 "basic rule" which means regardless of what's posted, if an officer deems your driving to be unsafe for whatever reason, it's your word against theirs in court.

just a little FYI.

that printout is somewhat incorrect. last summer, i got caught driving over 100mph on highway 5. the cruiser tagged me at 120. when my court date finally arrived, i also thought that i wasn't going to be fined more than $500 and possibly only a month's suspension. prior to this, i had a clean record.

anyhow, the judge original sentence was $1600 in fines for reckless driving, 2 points will appear on my record which stays in your record for 7 years and a month's suspension. he also pointed out that the legislators passed a law that voided the "fines cannot exceed more than $500..." line.

in the end, he gave me a break on the fines since it was my first offense. they took my license for a month, ordered me to pay $700 and 2 points on my record.

also, my insurance jumped to $300 more each year for the next 7 years.

hope that clears up some misunderstanding. word of advice: don't speed, it's not really worth it. you can endanger other lives and if you get caught...you'll be paying for it for awhile.

Reckless driving is a whole 'nother charge.

The "not to exceed $500" would have been just for the 100 MPH thing, but it figures they'd revise the wording to nullify that- more revenue for the state.

sounds like they threw the book at you on a few counts.

If you want to go over 100 mph legally, sign up for one of these:

1199 doesn't make it lega, just a little less likely that you'll get the book thrown at you by the officer on the hwy.

it helps to have at least 600 HP and pretty good aero to break into the 200 club, might be a stetch for a 2liter -even with a turbo.
