wheel bearings...
so, within 1 year, this is the 2nd set of wheel bearings that i've gone through.
does anyone have any experience with ceramic wheel bearings? i understand that these would be overkill for a daily driver - that isn't the point.
i am not looking for hp/torque or anything else gains. just real world experience with them...
opinions - keep those to yourself, i'm just not interested.

Joel, you also need to change the hub, hub housing, inner/outer seals, otherwise you will always have the same problem of the wheel bearings going bad no matter what type of bearings you use. The components all work in conjunction together. Just changing out the wheel bearing doesn't work, I see this on a daily basis.

Basically, once you press the wheel bearing in and out a couple of times, the hub housing hole gets bigger. Even though the hub housing hole only enlarges a very minute amount, it still allows for some damaging effects of play for the bearing which in turn causes it to go bad, hence why you should also change out the hub and hub housing too.

Nut torque plays a very critical role in bearing life.
How many miles did this last set of bearings last?
What parts were replaced the last time?

that is a real pain in the *** to have to replace the entire hub - not in the sense of the labor, but the fact that unless i go to a dealership, then i'm pretty much buying somebody's used hubs. which case, i'm pretty much back in the same spot.
i'd guess right around 20,000 miles. the bearings and all seals were replaced last time. i had the press in and press out task done at a local machinist shop. i supplied all the parts - new timken bearings and seals.
correct me if i'm mistaken, 2007 wrx wheel bearings WOULD work on my 99RS correct? last time i checked on Napaonline, they all have the same part number. in fact, as best as memory serves, the STi's also share the same bearings and seals part numbers.
all in all, i'm just looking for a bearing set that will last me a long time, as i do tend to be very rough on my cars (blew out a coilover recently). and i am willing to spend more money on something that will last.

just checked on Napaonline. the 99RS, 07WRX and 07STi all have the exact same bearing part numbers. now, i do not know if Subaru has changed it internally (got used to Toyota doing this on quite a few parts).

Subscribed - I will have to do this on the rear of an '02 WRX soon as well. Can the whole kit (hub, bearing, housing, seals) be purchased as a unit or should I just get the parts separately? I don't have a press which is why I ask..

The above are rear bearings.
The fronts are your NT number through 3/04. After they become 28316FE000. There are also hub/bearing units that are sealed units (i.e. STi).
08/09 cars used sealed hub/bearing units front and rear.
Of course this isn't totally detailed. I could go more into it, but it's a good enough idea.

Let me know..
Oh, and as far as I know, everything comes separately...
