Pretty wild!!! I have NEVER seen that happen to an OEM crosspipe before! Seen it on lots of aftermarket headers and whatnot, but that's pretty crazy. But if it could happen, it would happen on Jeff's car, lol
That stock one was thermal barrier coated inside and out. That should protect the part from cracking like that, as it prevents heat cycling and therefore metal fatigue. It's really a shocker (not that shocker, sickos) on all fronts.
As for P&P&C OEM manifolds vs. aftermarket headers -- that one test was interesting but a custom tune is truly necessary for it to be worthwhile. Gruppe-S tuned two otherwise identical STI's (owned by two friends... members on here) who got GT30 kits and tunes from Moike. The P&P&C OEM manifolds (with stock crosspipe) car made slightly more power/tq than the car w/ headers but spooled 300 rpm quicker. Oddly enough, it seems like small turbos benefit more from headers and a replacement crosspipe like the Injen one, whereas larger turbos tend see no consistent gain from using an Injen crosspipe and make as much power with ported OEM manifolds as stainless headers, but the OEM elbows have better spool and response. Sort of odd that it would be that way, but all of the results we've seen have kept true to this. Plus the sound of the cast iron manifolds is great -- deep and clean -- and obviously the cost to have the P&P&C service done is significantly less than an aftermarket header.
