Here's what they often do down in L.A, they steal a car, then strip it down to the frame, then leave it somewhere where the cops find it. Insurance totals the car. They find the auction where it gets sold at, buy the car back, put it back together and sell it under a salvage title. That's probably why you hear strange rattling sounds, they probably did a crappy job of reassembling the car.
