Whats a good cell phone plan? (asking for a friend)

So my friend wants to get a cell phone soon and is looking into Verizon or Cingular. He can get a discount on Cingular through his work but he's more leaning toward Verizon because a lot of his friends have it and you get the free mobile to moblie calls.

Overall he's looking for a plan with free night / weekends and a good amount of anytime minutes. Preferably a low monthly rate or something like that an no more than $150 for the phone itself. We talked to some of the Verizon people at the mall but he decided not to get the phone cause those guys always try to get you to pay for more than you have to.

Anyways, what good plans are out there for Verizon right now?

i think the better question to ask is how much anytime minutes he needs a month...

as for the nights and weekends, most companies offer free N&W's that start at 9pm, but if u pay a like 10 bucks more u can get the Night minutes to start counting at 7pm iirc.

I'll estimate he would want like 500-800 anytime minutes... my best guess.

verizon is more expensive, but you'll get better coverage.

Sprint dont get much love, but ive had it for the past couple years and it hasnt done me dirty yet...get reception pretty much everywhere i go. only place ive found that i do not get much recpetion is the San Bruno area. Assuming your friend is Eastbay like yourself, i go over there every now and then and have had excellent reception there as well.

verizon is probably has the best coverage, i used to have verizon and it was the best serice ive ever had. ive been with att since i have a discount through my work, but coverage isnt that great. i work in the basement and i get no service but when i was with verizon i had serive everywhere.

i plan on going back to verizon, but as what matt mentioned above it is a little pricey but its well worth it.

i think t-mobile has a plan for 1500 anytime minutes for only $39.

i got a similar deal a year ago with Cingular: 1000 anytime min for $39. i'm sure this plan is standard nowadays. i never go over 1000 minutes a month.
